Today Ford mobile came to my home to update two recalls:
23S27 and body control module.
after the software update I went till up and now my gas miles to empty dropped from always reading 500 plus to empt. Now it reads 300 plus to empty, now I guess I’ll have to wait for this fix.

During the updates the truck was in ready mode resulting in the ice running at least part of time. This alone could affect est miles to empty as the additional ready time and gals used will be assumed to be repeated in the same relative percentages as the prior milage and runtimes. Also. Maybe something else was changed also. It may take completely the next fill up to restore YOUR USAGE style of driving.
EDIT TO ADD:
On this freshly filled tank drive some miles and try to get 60 mpg for as many miles as you have driven since filling up. Then fill up again even if it's only 3 gallons maybe you can get 600 miles to empty for the next tank.

Give it some time. You're at a half tank now. By the time you're running low on gas, that MTE will catch up. Mine did the same thing, While I usually get 550 to 600 on a tank, after the update, MTE showed I'd only get a bit under 400. I got my normal by the time my gauge showed empty. The fix is time, not another update.

I got my recall/update on Monday 5/20 and was close for a fill up. I filled up Tuesday and got 566 miles on the tank. After I filled up my range told me 350 until empty. I'm biding my time and will see how it works out.

That is just about where my truck started out when it was new and it ended up at 523 mi with 38 to empty when I filled up for the first time. My second tank started at 540 to empty and dropped to 460 quite quickly but I am on target for 590 on this tank. My guess is the updates you got reset the mi to empty calculation and it will have to relearn to match your RL numbers again!

I had the same happen after I had them do 2 recalls yesterday. My 80 something MTE went down to 30 something after the service. I'm pretty sure it just resets the fuel economy history so it has to learn it again as you drive. Right after filling up I think it was showing around 360 MTE. Today after driving around 120 miles it shows 472 MTE. You just need to drive it and the MTE estimates will get more accurate again over time.

I noticed my gas tank went down after the same recall. They didn't tell me that the recall required leaving the motor running, but I believe it did. Miles to empty did go down quite a bit. I wonder how long the engine was running? The gas mileage took a hit.

I forget which recall I had done maybe the BCM reprogram but it took longer than they initially said. In any case when I got in the dash timer was just over an hour advanced and the AC was on max cool which forces the ice to stay on and not turn off when HVB charges to it's 40%. I have had recalls done in my driveway during which the tech turned max AC on to watch for things but those times was less than 10 minutes.
