Actually opening a locked alarmed cab should have set the alarm off if transponder not recognized.
That's what my truck did. As soon as I unlocked the door with the key. the alarm warning sounded. I had my hands full and didn't get the truck started in time, so the alarm activated and then stopped when I started the truck.

Please if you could l would really appreciate it if you could give an update on what the problem was when you get it back from the dealership.
Will do.

Even though they're integrated into the same key, the Remote Keyless Entry (lock/unlock, etc) and Passive Anti-theft (ignition) are technically separate ID systems.
Glad you mentioned that. Now the manual makes sense.
At least proves the keys are coded, or rather the truck knows those transponders.

Anti-Theft alarm disarmed by remotely opening doors, or turning ignition to on.

DISARMING THE ANTI-THEFT ALARM SYSTEM
Disarm the alarm by performing any of the following actions:
  • Unlock the doors or luggage compartment with the remote control.
  • Switch your vehicle on or start your vehicle.

Whereas Passive starts by just turning truck off.
Both disarmed by turning ignition to On - so key unlock not a disable for either system.
Yikes. I guess be ready to always start truck quickly if fob dies.

HOW DOES THE PASSIVE ANTI-THEFT SYSTEM WORK
The passive anti-theft system arms when you switch your vehicle off.
It disarms when you switch your vehicle on with a correctly coded key.
Note: The system is not compatible with non-Ford aftermarket remote start systems.
Note: Do not leave a duplicate coded key in your vehicle. Always take the keys and lock all doors when leaving your vehicle.

The alarm will always go off if you unlock manually instead of using the remote or keypad. There is no authentication transceiver at the door handles

I just got back from the dealer (not the one that did the recall work). They determined that the recall dealer that did the side curtain airbag recall pinched the harness and, over time, caused it to fail. Here's the picture they took of the harness running down the A-pillar. It's the black harness caught behind the silver buckle with the white strap.

They suggested I go back to the recall dealer and have them fix it. My guess is that it won't be considered warranty work and the dealer today wouldn't get paid by Ford. They didn't charge me anything for the hour or so it took them to diagnose it, either.

Oh interesting. Was this related to why the key fobs stopped working?

Yes, they said that pinched harness is the reason the fobs aren't working.

Do you mind naming the dealer that did the recall work for you? I'm from SE MA myself and looks like you're relatively close. I actually just got my truck back from Jannell Ford in Hanover MA after 7 days for 3 recalls (this one included) and am having the same exact issue..

The dealer that did the recall work is Ira Ford in Auburn. The dealer that diagnosed the problem was Lamoureux Ford in East Brookfield.

Oh wow so it must have something to do with the recall they're performing. They did ask me permission to access the under-rear-bench storage so they could access the battery. I'm guessing they disconnected that and maybe that caused the key issue?

Please if you could l would really appreciate it if you could give an update on what the problem was when you get it back from the dealership.

I got my truck back today and it's all fixed, although it took 4 business days. They confirmed that the wires were crushed by the buckle in the A-pillar as a result of the side curtain airbag recall work.

Interestingly, that fault also caused the TPMS light to come on well after the key fobs stopped working and stay on solid. Once the wires were repaired, the key fob and TPMS problems both went away.

I've speculated in numerous threads that Ford is doing something to secure wired canbus and rfid against hacking, and these changes - gone wrong - are why some hybrids have gone into limp mode or completely died.

Things like this make me a lot more confident in that theory.

I think Ford is trying to block a potential theft issue. Better to do that in advance before it becomes an epidemic like Hyundai/Kia.

The Remote Transceiver Module that handles those signals (if you have remote start) is mounted above the map light assembly.

Curious how they replaced the wiring that was ruined?

Seeing it ahead of time like you got from other dealer, I frankly would have laid out to original dealer that their missed 20 second check of their work sure caused them a lot of expense afterwards - and asked who they were going to have do the fix.
Just to get the point across. Do it right once.

Based on the invoice, it looks like they used a wiring repair kit rather than replace the entire harness. I'm OK with that since it meant they only needed to remove the A-pillar cover instead of getting into a lot more of the interior and dash areas.

Of course, now the repair needs to hold up.

Just chiming in that this EXACT scenario happened to me. Still waiting on dealer loaner to get it fixed. Immediately after the recall the fobs weren't working which they acknowledged. 48 hours later TPMS came on solid. Glad I have a rather concrete cause and can at least point them in the right direction.
