I ordered Mabett’s dash cubby insert set because of my interest in two of the included inserts, the magnetic phone mount and the electric fan. I found the box with the FITS mount is secure in the cubby space and offers an additional mini-storage space The included universal ball mount also anchors the set’s attachments and others that are likely to be developed and 3D printed by Maverick owners. I wish Mabett had considered including an additional FITS ball mount to alleviate the need to disassemble one accessory to attach to and install another. 3D printing offers a source I will likely have to turn to for my second.

I’m exchanging my current phone holder for Mabett’s. I appreciate the quick and easy preparation of the mount. When first attaching the magnetic ring to the back of my case, the ring’s adhesive tape was insufficient to hold the phone sevurely. The case’s back is irregular and the ring would pull loose when separating the phone from the mount. I chose to reapply the ring with an application of super glue. So far, so good.

I spend a lot of time sitting in my truck waiting for my wife while she is at appointments or stopping for a quick errand. Rather than running the engine for AC, I can see my using the fan to create a comfortable breeze. I’ll be keeping mine in my glove compartment for such use.

I read where someone said you can never have enough cup holders. If that is true, I should be glad that Mabett added another to my truck. At the same time as the cubby set, I ordered a pair of Mabett’s headrest hooks. Although the item has multiple fold down hooks for hanging things, I wish Mabett had thought to include one extra strong hook to fit the FITS slot. My wife’s carryall bag really does carry it all. My guess is its weight will overload the smaller hooks. Again, I’ll likely turn to a 3D printer to make my own. With a molded FITS receiver, the head rest units will support the use of any component from the cubby set for passengers in the rear seat. Together these products bring another welcomed level of utility to my Maverick.

Very good review. I got the same additional accessories, but am I bit perplexed by the cub holder. Seems that if you put anything taller than 4 or 5" it's going to block part of your front vision. Have you had any experience with it?

No. My thought was to use it in the rear attached to one of the head rest hook units.

If you're using the satellite GPS instead of your phone, then you're right, overlap wouldn't much matter. While my phone serves as my primary GPS, I do like having satellite as a fail-safe.
Thanks for answering my inquiry.
Hey Tom, I cobbled my phone and GPS holder from parts on Amazon. I mostly use it for the phone though. I found a extension piece that allows mine to stay up above the screen. They come in several lengths, I got a 3 inch, but have seen a 4 and 6 somewhere on Amazon. It attaches on the 17mm ball and goes upward from there with another 17mm ball on top. May have to adjust for a larger GPS, mine is a 6" screen.

Good luck!

So, one could use the extended length of this holder to attach to the Mabett mount and discard the base if I'm understanding you correctly. Great idea. Thanks, Dave.

Yes, that is what I did. The unit is very stable, no movement at all once you tighten it down. There are some others that come without a base, just have to look around. A taller, maybe 5-6" would put GPS bottom edge about even with the top of the dash (I think). Maybe use a ruler and play around with measurement. I am not so good at that. Remember "Measure once and cut 3,4,5, times is more how I operate! Haha. Here is another I found, don't know anything about this one though.

Very kind of you to take the time and effort to offer these suggestions. The last link looks to be a little too long and whatever is attached would probably extend too far above the dash. I like the look and stability of the first product link you sent. I'll look on eBay for a small GPS. Thanks again!

Since Maybett cubby insert does not come with removal instructions. This is what I have found works.
Removing the Maybett Cubby Insert.

Start first by removing the gray rubber insert on the bottom of the cubby

Ford Maverick Mabett Dash Cubby Insert Set Available Now! 20241026_092223

Locate the locking tab.
With your thumbnail gently lift up on the tab from the inside the insert.

While lifting up on the tab with your other hand slightly lift up with the insert and pull it out.

Mine is on back-order, I haven't had a magnetic phone holder before. I assume you need to stick a metal ring on the back of your phone for it? I've seen friends with that on their phones, my concern is when you upgrade to a newer phone can you get a new ring someplace to stick on the new phone? (Guessing that is a common issue?)

Great question.
You may want to send MABETT a DM asking about purchasing additional metal rings. And then please keep us updated on their response.
What you're going to find, is that the phone holder base is made out of metal. It is quite substantial. The actual socket with the nut on it is plastic so that can spread apart and fit over the ball attachment.

Good luck take care.

Rings are pretty widely available - it is just metal, not a magnet. Very inexpensive.

You can probably find a phone case that has " MagSafe ring" on it, which was a half step so people could use Apples Magsafe Qi chargers on Android devices. On your next phone, just look for Qi 2 standard, I imagine over the next few years even cheaper phones will include this. ( If you buy Apple phones any of the newer ones are going to work without a stick on ring )

Thanks. After posting earlier I looked online and yes there are a bunch of replacement rings available.

Perfect fit.

Got mine today.

Holds my large Garmin DriveSmart 86, 8" screen (with an adapter for 22mm to 17mm for the ball mount).

Does not block my view, and is a large display for my primary GPS map directions.

Love it.

Thank you Mabett!

How is the addition of super glue to your ring working out ? Is it staying secure to your phone case now ? TIA

Bought the magnetic phone holder only... Just sent it back after having about a week. 1st... Could never get the insert to fully go into the space... Stuck out over 1/2". YouTube shows just inserting oh so easy. NADA... Never did get it fully inserted. Backing on metal ring that you have to attach to the back of your phone is not strong enough to compensate for the pull of the magnet. At first I thought it was me, but when trying to detach the unit, sometimes half the ring would come loose from the phone case, with it bending often... I would straighten and reattach. Each time this happened it got worse. Today it ended on the floor twice while driving to vote. Each time the ring came loose from my phone case... Enough is a enough. Guess I will stay with my cup holder phone holder...
