Extra tint is not an option. Have to do it separately. Got my front door windows to match rear and then windshield done. All that in ceramic looks great and does cut down on heat gain in summer
In 2018, I bought a used 2017 Ridgeline from a local Honda dealer in NJ. Drove it for a couple of years, then one day was pulled over by the local police. They told me my front side windows are illegally tinted. I had no clue as this is how the vehicle was sold to me by the dealer. The police were nice (if you want to call it that) and said they were only warning me, but they could not be certain how other police officers would handle if I was pulled over.

I decided to have the tint removed from the front side windows ... better safe than sorry. The tinted windows look nice, but it is not that big of a deal to me.

Since then, I notice that most cars (primarily in NJ) have darker tint on the rear windows compared to the front windows. I guess this is an industry standard for the safety of law enforcement.

So per ford, the rear doors and rear window have a factory 30% tint built in. tint on the front doors and windshield tint tend to be illegal most everywhere else.
I've seen many vehicle here in CA with very dark tint on the front doors with nary a concern from law enforcement. I don't like the heavy tint on these windows because it prevents me from determining if the driver sees my vehicle.

This is the most subjective and submissive BS I have read in a while.

Roll over and show your belly. Good boy.
If only you had anything of substance to hold a valid discussion about this.

According to my local tint guy, UV protection on the front windows is not determined by the degree of darkness. Darker tint is just an option, so one can get great UV protection and still have a tint within the requirements of the law.

As I said before on the topic of tint many times - your "feelings" for "safety" don't trump my privacy. If they want to waste their time pulling over folks for tint that's on them. But nothing, AND I MEAN NOTHING, gives them the right to make those idiotic assumptions that were being discussed. I'm sure there are better things they could be doing... Not to mention the catch 22 of the fact that UC's use the very tactic that's being criticized.

But, it's not the place or time for that discussion. Read the rules here and grow up. If they want to slap me on the wrist for calling out this BS, fine. Do it. But thanks for further derailing and adding - as you say - nothing of substance. Wanna be admin mentality right there. I have no sympathy for such idiocy. It's a bubble boy mentality and deserves to be called out because it's 90% of their comments on this forum.

BTW, If you care to actually read through the thread, you'd see I already commented 6 times - on topic.

Great job, Tom. (y)

Now, how bout that lux package discussion... What are we on now? Sunroofs? How bout those folding mirrors...

I'd wager that to be correct. I have 60% ceramic (virtually clear) on my sunroof, front sides, and entire windshield, and 5% dyed on top of the factory tint on the rear sides and rear window.

Even being parked outside all day in Las Vegas in the summer, the dash gets warm but not like hot to the touch like it used to. If I deploy a cheap folding sunshade (the fabric kind that pops open) then the dash barely gets warm.

I had 35% on the front sides of my F-250 (previous owner got it done). I tolerated it for about a month before getting it removed. Backing up trailers at night was basically impossible without rolling the windows down.

And if you want to block the majority of the heat you must also get infra red tint.

If your state allows front and side window tints, then you're in a very backwards state. Maybe consider moving to more normal places, where the cops can actually see what you're doing when you get stopped. There is also the huge problem in that dark tint makes it impossible to actually see properly at night, or even at twilight.
There are 50 state legal front side and front windshield tints. Not sure about Canada. Shade can have little to no impact on UV or heat reduction.

They allow it in Michigan but according to that ancient law written in 2000, it's only on top 4 inches of glass. Window tint has come a long way since 2000. That is a law in need of revision.

Definitely not true. For example, here is the law in Michigan: https://www.tinting-laws.com/michigan/
Not starting an argument - worked for years for an interstate trucking company and each state has it's on tinting laws, but the FEDERAL HIGHWAY system is supposed to be handled by states police, etc on Federal Highways (especially at weigh stations and toll roads). I have received two tickets in rental cars where the drivers and passenger front seats had too much tint based on the Federal regulations....but most states law enforcement officers do not enforce the Federal tints regulations. Two tickets on Federal Highways, one in Florida let me off with a warning, Iowa gave me a ticket for $153.00 for too much tint on drivers side window. If tinting was not corrected in Iowa within 7 days (and caught again) there was something like a $500 fine, or impounding of vehicle.
