I thought I'd share the magsafe mount I've been working on.
So far, it's a friction fit within the cubby and no adhesive or velcro is being used. The insert has a weird spiral shape to it that was initially a mistake that I made while modeling it, and I thought it looked cool enough to print it. Well it turns out those front and rear harsh edges bite into the cubby really well. Today I took it on its maiden voyage (my commute) where there are speed bumps, train tracks, and two harsh intersection dips (I've seen a tesla catch air through one of these intersections). I'm pleased to announce neither the magnet nor the insert budged, and I aimed to yeet the truck through each of these obstacles pretty good.
For the MagSafe portion, I cannibalized a suction cup crane-like mount that I found on Amazon. The arm can extend in and out of the insert to fit different phone sizes or to simply position the phone however you please. The mount is a little pricey just to be using the magnet portion and one arm, but I chose this one because it appeared that the suction cup might fit inside of the cubby. Aren't we glad it didn't?? Now I have a specialized mount that is ~$0.50 more than the original mount I bought. Just out of curiosity, I want to make a lower profile insert next that allows the phone to butt completely up to the cubby and close it off.

If enough people like it, and if the mount survives long enough without modifying it to use command strips/velcro, I'll share the file here. Or heck, maybe I'll just make both versions, the YOLO version and the "Better be safe" version.
