🌄 If you were planning a road trip and could choose two U.S. states, which would you recommend and why?
We’re especially interested in routes that stand out for driving experience, scenery, or overall practicality.

We’d also appreciate any vehicle preparation or maintenance advice for longer trips, such as:

  • Items you always check or service before departure
  • Small details that are often overlooked but matter on the road
  • Lessons learned from past trips that you’d recommend others keep in mind

Thanks in advance for sharing your experience.

More than 2 states but Route 66. My thoughts for long trips are change oil and filter and other routine maintenance items, carry at least some basic tools for flats, flashlight, water etc

My son has a home on some acreage in the mountains outside of Blackhawk, CO. I have made many trips out there from Central Indiana. The side roads, highways, the I-70 West up over the mountains drives are amazing, many roads along clear rivers and creeks, some stunning twisting roads with many switch backs and grades. You can’t go wrong exploring Colorado, Montana, Wyoming, Idaho, Canadian Rockies and the West slopes.
Having a decent tool kit, first aid kit, Flat tire fix, back pack bug out bag, towing and packing straps, even some extra gas in a Gerry type can, because you can get on some pretty rough and long utility and fire roads. My wife and I have been on some rough but beautiful roads like that with views that are breathtaking. We just took a trip to Alaska in early fall of 2025 for a few weeks, it was awesome and inspiring. Saw 25 bald eagles in the sky at one time. It was in the all day light phase so that was weird but cool. I did many of my trips in a Ford F-250 Super Duty Harley Davidson version turbo diesel. But for the past year and a few months in my 24 Maverick XLT EB AWD FX4 which has been very enjoyable and the gas mileage versus the turbo diesel lights out. The United States is a beautiful country and I know it seems many Americans hate our country today, but wow, they need to get out and see the real America, amazing scenery and amazing people.

I’ve flat-towed my 2025 Maverick Lariat AWD Hybirid behind the motorhome about 6,000 miles in 2025 across Florida, Georgia. South Carolina, North Carolina. Alabama, Mississippi, Louisiana it’s the perfect Toad…
