I will definitely call or go up there tomorrow and ask about it. Do you think a new engine would lesser the value of the vehicle? Or cause it to not live as long? Or am I overthinking?

I've swapped out transmissions myself before with bad luck later on, so not sure
Not as much as not having a new engine put in. I would rather buy a vehicle with a new crate engine than one with the head gasket replaced. We’re also in a time that you can sell anything for more than MSRP. The 2.5l engines are a super easy swap while head gasket can be trickier. Any issues will present them self in the first couple weeks, similar to your current situation. Hopefully there are no issues.

Traditional Transmissions are finicky. I’ve rebuilt a couple with trained professionals and still believe them to believe black magic. I’ve also noticed the car never drives perfect again after a new transmission install. Military trucks have been ok though after a swap.

Yes sir! The truck itself is incredible, I'd love to keep it! Just don't want to think that I'm driving around in a lemon lol. Hopefully, they swap out the engine though.

And I think mine has a CVT, really don't know much about the reliability of that. Really wish this truck came in a manual, that would be insane! Definitely not a fan of automatics either! Sounds like you have a lot more experience than me though.

Thank you!

Good afternoon!

Someone canceled their order for an XL 2.5L Hybrid 4 days ago, and I was lucky enough to snag it up with only 20 miles on it. I love this truck so much! Literally the perfect vehicle for me, and I love getting 42+ MPG.

However, I saw a puddle when I got home, but I thought maybe it was from using the AC. Yesterday, at 180 miles, I realized it was leaking a ton of oil & coolant. Leaving puddles at my house and office. Also, smelt oil from the cab when I had the fan on.

I checked the dipstick, it was at the very bottom. I took it to my Ford dealer today, they said it was coming from the back of the engine (Head gasket?). They gave me a loaner vehicle and said they would keep me updated on repairs.

Sorry for the bad photos, I originally took a video, but not sure how to upload it.

Not really sure what to think! Any opinions?

I don't think I did any damage, but just hoping I didn't get a lemon.

Thank you!
Take it back to the dealership right away and have them fix that.

I would have bought a manual without blinking. Try not to worry about it being lemon yet. A bad engine can be swapped and your concerns will fade over time. If you can’t shake the feeling of it being a lemon just swap for a 23. I get the fear though.

Yes, the vehicle has an eCVT. About 1/5th the parts of a regular 8 speed auto, no belts, pulleys. Highly reliable and simple to build/rebuild. The warranty is 8yr/100k miles on the hybrids components and that includes the transmission. The engine is not included.

Thank you sir! If they swap the engine, I will be super happy. Glad to hear that the new CVT is good as well. I know the CVTs on older Fords, Ford Freestyle & Ford 500 were garbage IMO, but from what I've heard, the new ones are similar to what comes with Toyotas.

Can't wait to drive it again!

You sure have a good positive attitude.
Personally I would be very saddened but not mad.
Perhaps you are younger. I remember being young, living in an apartment, not knowing much about the cars engines/trannys, I purchased. Of course YouTube and the internet were not available as much.
Now I am the opposite, I research to the point where I am aware of every detail. This takes some of the fun out of life though.
Hope all goes well.
Can you provide more information as it becomes available?

I wouldn't panic too much until someone cleans it up and finds the source. I've seen the Oil filter adapter not be threaded tightly through the oil cooler and it pissed all over the bottom of the car during PDI. snugged up with a 14mm allen and all was fine.

Positive thoughts, right?

Hello!
Send us a private message with your VIN and the name and location of your local Ford dealer.
I’d be happy to see what I can do to assist. Thanks!

This is what warrantees are for. Sounds like they are doing what they can to make it right.

I truly hope this is not a design or material problem. It may be the same problem that VW ran into when manufactured in Mexico. The same cars were being manufactured in Germany and Mexico with the same parts, but the vehicles produced in Mexico had a 56% problem rate and the German produced car had a 4% problem rate.

Now for all you people who are going to jump on me for RACISM, people are people but if management and quality control aren't taking their jobs seriously, bad things can happen.

I was friends with a guy working at GM in Maryland in the 70's and I would meet him sometimes at the Chevrolet Inn about a hour before his evening shift. A half an hour before his shift the bartender would come on the loud speaker " All you MFers pay up and go to work".

The same friend told me you couldn't report anything other employees were doing wrong or you were a company rat. So, the guy installing the wiring harness before the car got to him would install the harness in the wrong place and because of the unions he would not say anything to the employee doing it, or management. So what did he do, he installed the fender over the wiring harness and crushed the hell out of the wires.

I have more, but some are criminal.

Now I'm off to get my Maverick. I hope they used plenty of gasket sealer on the transmission/engine and windshield.

Oh god! Those Jatco CVTs were utter garbage; Anything coming from Jatco is garbage. Slap a horrible designed transmission with a horrible company and you have a recipe for disaster. It's common knowledge that belts and pulleys wear out over time and need replacement. Whoever thought it would be a good idea to put them into a transmission together was a special kind of stupid.

The eCVT does not resemble the CVT of lore. The Ford eCVT had issues in 2013-2015 because of a bad designed bearing but that has since been remedied. These go for hundreds of thousands of low maintenances miles. I do predict some failures from people who overload the tow rating frequently and fail to change the fluid often enough. The fluid will break down due to excess heat faster and if it isn't changed the lack of lubrication will cause the parts to fail quickly in the transmission. Those people will arrive in a few years and probably complain that the eCVT is garbage. In reality it is one of the best transmission available today and treated correctly will last the life of the vehicle (longer).

Hope this is something simple to fix but in reality it sounds like it could be major. Because this is the first time we've heard of a problem like this it seems to be an isolated incident.

I'm not going to get ahead of a diagnosis but this is probably a good time to mention that the Maverick, like many newer vehicles today has an all aluminum engine. The worst enemy is overheating. Unlike cast iron, aluminum can warp from heat and or stress. Unlike the old days when you could make it to that gas station a mile or two away, you must turn off the ignition as soon as you get any indication of overheating. Any warping is catastrophic.

I wish you the best of luck with you new Maverick and please keep us posted.

Oh cast iron absolutely warps, I had a 3.8 Buick that could attest to that lol. Modern Fords do a pretty good job of regulating overheat conditions though. When they go into overtemp protection they cut alternating cylinders to pump air through, and will shut down completely past a certain CHT. Now, iron block and aluminum heads is the real fun setup.
