LOL!. I have a hybrid on order, but not scheduled yet. So I called around, and got above from a Southern California dealer. I chose not to correct, just said OK, thanks, bye.

LOL, indeed. I was aware of that. It's just not my goal to educate salespeople.

What is it about (s-o-m-e) car sales people who think they have to make shit up when they don't know the answer to a customer's question? Is it really that difficult to say "Hey, I don't know. Let me do some investigating and get back to you."??

That would require taking more action. It's a laziness thing.

Was he using that to try to divert you from a Maverick to something else he had available?

Or was he just talking through his hat for no reason?

To be fair, some people make shit up when they don’t know the answer.

Dealers seem to not understand that members of the MTC know more than they do! I feel bad for the salespeople though. Times are tough for them. I’ve worked in a high pressure sales environment and told many little white lies to keep up.

There is a certain personality type who's only goal is manipulating others in order to make more money. Unfortunately a lot of them wind up as car salesmen. People like that only bother educating themselves when they realize they have to in order to make more money. Annoying and irritating to deal with but they are generally oblivious to that fact.

The best revenge is to let people like that continue in their ignorance.

To them it's a job. Sure you'll get the occasional salesperson who is also an enthusiast or otherwise genuinely passionate. But most of them just want to sell you something, and most customers will take any answer at face value.

In fact, in my time working as a dealership mechanic, customers tend to prefer a partially-true answer that sounds reasonably plausible over an "I don't know; let me look that up and get back to you" answer.

Even for me, a self-proclaimed Ford enthusiast, I could rattle off tech specs and option codes for every F-series pickup currently available for sale.

But if someone came in wanting a Transit Connect, I'd be reading the same training information they could probably find online.

The best revenge is to let people like that continue in their ignorance.
And then watch them backpedal when they are presented with actual facts.

The problem for dealerships is that people often want answers that suit their emotions rather than the facts. Also, the salespeople basically have to take an overview approach to the vehicles they sell and can't really be expected to have done the "deep dive into the details" that forum enthusiasts will do. That approach will serve then just fine for 90% of the questions they get.

If they pull out a bs answer that sounds good to a question they can't actually answer it's gonna work 90% of the time as well.

All you can do is educate yourself and don't take no for an answer when you know you are right.

Ever notice what salespeople do when there are no customers around?

Apparently it's easier to hang out by the side door smoking cigarettes than to actually educate yourself on the product your selling.

LOL XX I have had one since April this year. The real issue according to my dealer is that; 1. They just aren't available (He has local businesses that have multiple Mavericks on order they can't get yet.) 2. There just isn't a lot of profit in them.
