So this is probably a dumb idea, but I figured I'd see what the experts on here would say.

I have an idea for a kill switch, but it would require skill's that are outside of my pay grade.

What's the feasibility of using the slot in the center console, installing a card reader underneath, and utilizing a chipped card as a way to have a kill switch? Remove the card, vehicle doesn't start. Is something like this feasible or would it be a nightmare to wire up?

I would rather wire a killswitch to my cigarette lighter. That whole card thing seems like extra effort, I would look at other methods to install a killswitch.

Also, being an open to the air vertical slot, residues (including greases from offgassing of the interior materials) plus regular everyday grit and grime might easily enter and gum up whatever doodads were installed in there to read a card.

I think it's a neat idea, I could see using it just for parking longer term, I'd leave the "key card" in the slot 99% of the time.

If you are seriously concerned with theft have a Ravelco device installed. I have one on my TRX due to it and other Hellcat vehicles being heavily targeted and the relative ease in fob cloning..

Kill switches hard wired into the fuse panel are the way to go. It saved my
Toyota not once but twice. If you don't want your car take put a kill switch in it. The Security stuff is a joke, all alarms are useless.

That's why I suggested a Ravelco..... (y) But it's not a 'kill switch wired into the fuse panel"

Dodge and TRXs are the easiest targets unfortunately, 4 more brand new TRXs were stolen from the plant just this week (that's $400k of vehicles in one shot). There are multiple ways to attack them, one issue is that someone can be in a parking lot or driving by you with a reader and clone your fob while you are driving. As soon as you park and leave, it's there's. A faraday bag cant be used while driving. There is a huge thread on the TRX forum where many members including myself have invested in a Ravelco device. good luck...

LOL, I see you are in NJ, one of the absolute best Ravelco installers (Chuck) is in NJ and travels up and down the East Coast installing them. He did mine in MD. He has ~20 years experiance, he's a GREAT guy with the best attention to detail.

For me personally, I have no plans to install one on my Maverick, but it may be beneficial to others depending on their location and surroundings...

And one last thing to consider, until recently we could always depend on our insurance and just purchase a new vehicle in the event of a theft, think about the lead time today if you immediately needed a replacement, or if you were forced to buy an in-stock replacement, the ADM.

Car theft is way up in the suburbs too. But I'm not interested in a $500 3rd party 'switch', especially if it could raise warranty/extended warranty questions.

Did you wire your switch up yourself? I've got plenty of switches and marine grade wire. We just open circuit a fuse? Which fuse won't damage the car, or be easily debugged by a thief?

I used to know someone who put a magnetic kill switch under the cup holder in the front seat. So magnet on the bottom of his mug, took his mug with him when he left the car.
