Keypad on tailgate

I had my wireless keypad programmed yesterday morning. I had asked if they could install it under the tailgate handle, since I always go to the tailgate first at work to grab/put away tools. They said it had to be installed on the door for it to work properly. Luckily, it was raining, so they were unable to mount it on the door.

When I got home from work yesterday, I cleaned and installed the keypad below my tailgate handle, and magically, it works! (Sarcasm)

I tested the keypad before installing. I stopped testing when it was still working 100% at 10 feet out.

This will also give me the ability to leave my fob in the truck, so I can stop hitting the panic button accidently.

Sure. Why not.

Usually it will last something like 7-10 years (depending on use of course).

Less in cold climates.

If the signal weakens as battery voltage drops, your connection "may" (or may not) may not last as many years.

But if it's handy for you, I see great utility in what you've done.

The OP has a hybrid, wouldn’t work well, since they have a locking fuel door.

IFor my use case, this was the ideal mounting location. I'm in Omaha, NE, so it might die at some point, but if it lasts 3-4 years, ill be happy.

I do as well, but a lot of the time, my arms are too full to pull out my phone, open the app, hit unlock, and likely drop my phone.

This way, I just need 1 finger free. Its a very niche use case, but it's perfect for me.

You won’t be able to use the app if you have no cell service or lose your phone.

No, the battery in the wireless keypad is not replaceable.

If mine ever dies, I plan to test if that is true or not.
