Kayaks on Elevate Bed Racks

I still say a front bar is needed especially if you have a LONG kayak like that wood kayak. Looks like a nice kayak too. Not sure its even legal to have it over hang that far?

@FrankM It looks like you have a stubby antenna. Did you actually need to change that to clear with the rack in the highest position?

Would it at least clear the shark fin in the lowest position?

Considering the elevate rack plus a clamp-on for my 13" inflatable boat

I already had the stubby antenna so I could mount stuff to my roof racks, but here is a picture from the website...not sure if it helps.
For reference, I'm sitting at the 23" mark and it clears the stubby.

It's legal here in MI. I only need to hang a red 12"x12" red flag at the end. It only extends about 4 feet from the rear bumper, it just looks like it's hanging way out there. The way I have my kayak position on my bed rack is right at the center between the front and rear rack so my kayak is balanced sitting the bed racks.

I secure my kayak with tie downs at the front of the kayak cockpit and at the rear cockpit. The cockpit has a 1.5" lip so with my tie down at the front and rear cockpit this should prevents it from sliding forward or back in an emergency (I hope) since it's tightly held down with the front and rear straps.

When driving up North with my kayak and driving the speed limit I get about 32 mpg. I do have a cockpit cover and I think this helps with the wind drag. Also, I retired and don't need to drive fast any more, I'll get there when I get there

Well it works for you I just would be worried about it being hit. That is why I have a cross bar on the roof way up front so my kayaks don't stick way out.

When I first got my mav I already had a set of Yakima cross bars from past vehicle So just needed a clip kit for 100 bucks. Then a year later added a rear bar using Elevate Rails and made my own uprights and rear cross bar. I saw how on this forum and Jeep forum. So it is easy to load from back My picture I use on this forum shows my old setup using a thule Hullivator and just cabin cross bars. . Many ways to get it done.

Concerned about over the cab you could strap a foam block to the boat and it rests on the roof.
