So I saw someone else post months back about mounting rooftop kayak carriers to a wooden frame and throwing it into the bed. I got this one on sale today at Dick's Sporting goods (Augusta GA) for 50% off (of $179.99) thru July 6th.

I'll post an after picture when I get it figured out! I have some 2x2 to use as cross-bars then 4x6 left from my bed divider to mount the "cross bars" to. We have two shorter (adult) kayaks but last time they were hanging out the bed (tailgate up) one of them shifted and was hanging into the right lane quite a bit. Will be much easier not having to lift them over the tailgate.

Yours will definitely be a more "pro" solution, but everything I've hauled in the bed has been fine using only NRS cam straps with the tailgate down. I've used 2 straps at the most but you can add a 3rd on the tailgate if needed. I've hauled a single mountain bike or an iSUP and an inflatable kayak together in the bed. I just lay them flat (as practical) and strap 'em down tight.
