Thats what they have forcasters for. And (supposedly) second and third tier backup plans. 40,000 F150 vehicles on wheels (meaning missing parts) may point to some internal process problems. For instance, how do you run out of Ford logos? Or mud flaps? Neither of which can be blamed on a chip shortage.

I personally had my doubts that Ford was going to get all the assigned VIN's built, it seemed unlikely due to the reports that the number of units built a month were going to drop in the fall.

I wouldn't be at all surprised if Ford messed up things like badge production. Even in small organizations I've worked for there are logistic problems from time to time, I'm sure it's even worse in a big company. Thing is, you throw something like that into already messed up supply chains and you have what happened here, and you end up with a lot of pissed of people. I'm not here to defend Ford, not in the slightest.

Sometimes I think Ford would have been better off not having the factory ordering system at all to be honest, because less people would have been disappointed.

Perhaps the production process has always been this messed up, but because we mostly bought from dealer stock it didn't matter. IE, we had no idea that Ford built orders out whack because we just went and found the closest thing to what we wanted and brought it home. Before the last few years, almost nobody ordered cars anymore.

Would it not be nice of we lived in a perfect world where all the parts to make any and every Maverick were readily available and never failed and the production line worked consistently perfectly and there were plenty of workers who were like at least six of Snow White's seven dwarfs who constantly sing "hi ho, hi ho, its off to work we go" and would "whistle while (they worked)".
But, we don't. We live in a world that seems exactly the opposite. I see far too many who are "grumpy" about even having to work and many who try to get by with doing as little work as possible and really could care less about doing a quality job.

At the end of September, after being delayed for almost a year I had serious doubts myself. I voiced them to my salesman and he grudgingly agreed with me. I gave myself a 80% chance of not being built this year and he gave me 50% chance. His manager said "You have VIN, you're getting a '22!" Now I've been converted and I have no idea.

No problems here.
Ordered a Hybrid 6/21, received in January. Ordered an EB in January, picking up next week. Caveat Emptor. That's L.atin for choose your dealer wisely.
