That's always my first reaction... get away from a driver like that ASAP. I've even pulled over before, if it's possible and safe to do so...some idiot behind me the other day going down a secondary road - noticed she was weaving left and right ..this went on for about a mile, at a light I could tell she was on her phone and 'gesturing' in the air with her other hand, and she was always on my tail. Eventually I decided to get the heck away from her and got into the right turn lane and it was at that time that I noticed that the idiot was 'steering' with her knees. Moron.
Dash cams are fine for helping with insurance claims, but they don't prevent accidents. I'm reminded of the old Smokey Bear saying, "Only you can prevent forest fires."
In the case of the accident the OP shared with us, I doubt there was much she could have done to prevent what happened to her, other than leaving her Maverick parked in the driveway or garage.
So sorry to see your Maverick in that condition... and that bruise/burn looks really uncomfortable. Your Mav "took one for the team" and kept you safe though... I'll keep a good thought for a quick recovery.
In the meantime, you may want to consider going on offense with your next choice of vehicle. Won't get the same gas mileage as your Hybrid though...
