Let's start out by saying that "indecision is a terrible thing..." and leave it at that.

I placed an order for a 2024 Maverick XLT-AWD as an upgrade to the 2022 XL-EB-FWD I already have. Canceled the order for the '24 and placed an order for a 2024 Ford Ranger XL instead. (Don't need AWD/4x4 so long as truck has the increased towing capacity.)

Curious to know how many of you out there have previously owned Tacomas and what your experience has been with them, etc. and why you opted to go with Ford instead.

The only time I ever drove a Tacoma was bringing my friend into the ER, and I found her 2.7L 4-banger to be agonizingly slow. As a 5'6" person, the seating was horrible, couldn't see over the hood, couldn't get comfortable, and felt like I was riding a gaited horse since my legs were splayed to far out in front of myself. Not sure if the V6 drives any differently, but I'm wondering if I should go look at a 2023 Tacoma?

There's no right or wrong answers here. Just looking for input.

Thanks!

I've read the seats in Tacoma aren't the best. In your position I'd go test-drive both Ranger and Tacoma.

EDIT: and it cracks me up little cheap Mav is adequate but Tacoma wasn't...

The Maverick kicks the ass out of the Tacoma's seating position. For me to even see over the hood, I had to move the seat so far forward I felt like my knees were under my chin.

Before I purchased my Ranger I drove both a new Ranger & new Tacoma for several weeks. This was back in 2019. I had a loyalty to Toyota, but I just couldn't do it after that. As you mentioned, field of view was superior. On top of that, the difference between the Ecoboost & Toyota V6 was substantial. I do a lot of highway driving and I like to push the limits of the speed limit. I typically have about 500lbs or so in the bed of my truck (I have a dirt bike problem). The EB/10-spd didn't miss a beat. You could barely tell if/when it grabbed a gear. The Yota, on the flip side, grabbed a gear or 2 on big hills and sounded like it was going to shoot a piston out the hood trying to maintain 80mph on the highway. I really wanted to buy another Toyota, but there was just no comparison at all.

OP - the 2024 Tacoma is ALL NEW. It's built on the new Tundra chassis and has been getting very good reviews. In other words, everything everyone is saying on this thread about their Tacoma experience is completely irrelevant, unless you're buying a used Tacoma. All the old truths about seating position, power, etc - all 100% useless because it's a 100% different truck.

Also, Toyota is releasing a hybrid Tacoma shortly. If you go to a Toyota dealer for a test drive, make sure they're showing you the 2024.

True. And I seriously considered one of them too. Until I saw the 24 pricing. The Toyota tax on them is absurd.
