Howdy, just curious if anyone has experienced or heard of this... I installed aftermarket hood struts on my 2023 XLT, the truck was in for a recall and paint issues, the Ford dealer called and said they needed to replace the hood latch (under warranty) because the hood struts overstressed it... Is this actually something that can happen?

Update:
in case anyone runs into the same issue, looks like with struts need to just install a jeep spring, original thread here

If the aftermarket hood struts caused the problem, I am very surprised that they covered latch replacement under the factory warranty. That is very un-Ford like...
They may be trying to drum up some good will, I've been out the truck 2 weeks cause body damage they caused after all... Lol

Hood struts don't really break the latch, but can keep the hood from popping up on its own in a fashion to advance the staging of the two-stage latch. That's why some add a hood spring; Jeep ones are pretty easily sourced cheap.

I added the Jeep hood spring after my MRT hood-struts caused the hood to jam. The spring works great.

Darnon is DEAD ON here. I love my struts, but the hood doesn't "pop up" like it did before the struts.

It is nice, filling the washer reservoir and knowing that the cheapie prop bar isn't going to drop the hood on my head.

I installed the MRT hood struts. I watched the video 3 times. The guy installs the struts but at the end, doesn't open/close the hood. I wonder why, even with the ability to edit? Hmm.

My hood opens like before the struts were installed with two tugs on the release lever. No spring. However, I gave up trying for perfect gap and spacing between the fenders.

Rather than mount black brackets on my white Mav, or pay $160 for custom paint from MRT, I bought a spray can of my color on Amazon.

Curious what the issue was with the factory hood struts?

There were no hood struts on from factory, the hood wouldn't open easily with aftermarket struts and the dealer said it was cause the latch was worn out from the struts, real answer is you just have to have something provide more upwards pressure when (Jeep hood latch)

I forgot, your right no struts. Did you have them installed because the hood was to heavy to open?

I have aftermarket hood struts, and the hood did get stuck. Did fix it by popping off the side panel and fixing the release tube. I have twisted the little hood pucks to raise them up and haven't had an issue since.

I installed them cause at the time I lived in a apartment with lower ceiling parking garage and rather have them slowly open to any height then work with the prop rod
