Hello all, I am shopping the Maverick and based on the discussion here in my introduction post, I am trying to narrow down what trim of Maverick I want to settle on. Originally I was set on a Tremor but from what I heard from some members, I may want to consider other trims. I was told the Tremor would be more expensive, less fuel efficient, have more body roll, not be able to tow a decent amount and not really offer any advantage off the road than say a Maverick FX4.

So while I like to do some moderate off roading with a Tremor, I don't expect it to go places a body on frame vehicle with a real 4 Low mode. I actually have a place in my region that gives 101 classes on off roading since I have little experience with it and was thinking of trying it out (https://offroad-consulting.com/) but I would like to hear from people who own and kept the Tremor, based on the post I have seen here and the YouTube reviews, people are happy with the Tremor but I wanted to get as clear of a picture of what I can expect before making any decisions.

I don't have a Tremor but a 2025 hybrid Lariat and i Love it!! equip with the proper tires ( Falken wild peak AT) it can do some light to moderate off road trails ( no rock crawling- Mavs were not designed for that). I can say that the one thing the tremor has over the other trims is it's approach angle, ride height and locking diff. These features give it an advantage over the other trims when it comes to heavy mud, sandy and rocky trails. It can also do some light crawling from what I have seen. So, it maybe what you are looking for and yeah - you will pay more as the 2025 trim is the highest trim of the bunch now and no longer a package you can add to an XLT or Lariat model any more.

Thanks for sharing Pierre, I also welcome the tire suggestion as in my experience, most cars I got didn't have great tires from the factory. As for the other features, I feel I may miss the locking 4WD mode and rear diff which cannot be equipped on the non-Tremor.

I'm on my 3rd Mav, the first was a FX4 XLT, the 2nd a AWD Lariat, current is a Lariat Tremor. Yes, the mpg is lower than I'd like, but I'm not one to obsess over it. Overall, the Tremor is the most fun to drive, and constantly puts a smile on my face.

Do you have experience with a locking rear differential?

Hi and welcome!

So I have a 2024 Lariat Tremor that I bought about 2.5 weeks ago. I obviously don't know your situation but I'll share that my reason for ending up with a Tremor was the higher ride height. It's not a huge difference but with the 1 inch factory lift and slightly larger factory tire, it ends up being noticeable for me at 6'3" tall. I was able to get in and out of a non Tremor followed immediately by the Tremor and could easily feel the difference in height. That may mean nothing to an average height individual but it swayed me in my final decision.

With that said, I have been wondering if giving up the option for 4K towing was an acceptable trade off. Although I don't currently own a travel trailer I was considering one but without 4K towing, the options are pretty limited. So that might or might not end up being my reason for wishing I had made a different decision. Since I don't like looking backward, I will likely just move on from the idea of a travel trailer and just enjoy the truck.

To all the other points you made, those are valid considerations but I will add that if you intend to get into off roading the locking differential on the Tremor will make a difference.

Good luck with your decision. I'll close by sharing something a friend of mine said often: Don't worry about making the right decision. Make the decision, then make the decision right.

That's what I like to hear, I am trying to get down to 1 vehicle to save money and I have a Mustang now that I was planning to replace with a Bronco but after seeing the car/insurance cost I decided against it. So something I can get that will provide a little fun, do some stuff off road and get me to work is mainly what I am looking for. Thank you!

Last week at a stop light I was next to a Tremor. I talked to the guy until the light turned green and he said he wanted to trade his Tremor in for an AWD Hybrid. The AWD hybrid with good tires will do a decent job of what most people use the truck for.

Tremor looks great very impress with the look but for me I had to have the MPG with the hybrid. Maybe the 2028 Mavericks will get a Hybrid Tremor ( like Toyota has a hybrid Tacoma) or at least a Maverick Raptor with 33 inch wheels ( that would make me forget alI about mpgs and just move to the south and rock crawl all day long) lol.

I want a plug in hybrid 350hp Tremor with a 7500 or 10k tow package.
Yeah I know. Would be nice but that's not gonna happen. Ford would have to kill off the Ranger and put the Maverick to take its place. Since the Ranger is doing relatively well we will probably get the plug in hybrid Maverick and may be a slight bounce in towing to 5000 lbs to stay competitive with the Santa Cruse( maybe).

Yeah, they need to filter out all these weak sauce ICE-only models so they can put stuff like the 650HP/14k tow Ramcharger in the half ton slot, a 450hp/10k tow Ranger slot, and a 350hp/7.5k tow compact slot w/ an engine like the RAV4 PHEV has. Ford is sleeping on this and keeps making weak stuff to slot in behind stuff that should be more powerful at the higher end of the lineup.

I love my Tremor, but I don't do any towing with it and got it explicitly to enable me to handle pretty gnarly roads/trails. Sounds like you may be better off with an FX4 with the 4k tow if you're looking to be able to tow and still be capable on well maintained gravel/dirt roads.

Hi Chris, I was one of those responding in your first post. What might be helpful for all us responding is you defining what you would include in "moderate offroading". Is it like mud, deep ruts etc or sorta off road trails like in national or state parks, sand dunes, overlanding, etc. Do you feel you may one day want to get into overlanding and have the truck decked out for that and camping, etc?

I see the desire for the Tremor for its locking differential and it now being decked out with the Lariat features, (seats, B&O, etc) which a XLT FX4 wouldn't have. So i guess the real question is in what environment that you will plan to go to really require the locking differential and or 1" lift?

I like the Tremor, I have a MY22 Lariat AWD 4K Tow Pkg. I've had it in hunting club trails, with moderate ruts, mud etc and I've had no real issues off road.

I understand you don't currently plan to tow, but ask yourself in the time frame that you will keep the truck could your life change to where you might tow or loading it down with overlanding/camping setup? If the answer to that is yes, you may want to consider a trim level with the 4K Tow, it can't be added later - at least not economically. If the answer to that is no, then heck ya, get the Tremor with 2K Tow, which seems to be what you really want considering your current life style.
