Most states have tax incentives for trades, courtesy of NADA + lobbying + corrupt state politicians. So that trade on a new vehicle, where your trade is $30,000 or so, is incentivized by the state at around $1,800 in a typical 6% state tax environment.

In other words, if you private sale and make $1,500 more and are patting yourself on the back, you will get to slap yourself in the face when you realize you get to pay $1,800 in extra taxes upon purchasing your new Maverick. OTOH, if you make $3,000 more, then you can pat yourself on the back extra hard - as long as the buyer doesn't con or sue or harass you.

There are several existing threads on MTC about expected trade values for the Maverick. The latest professional projections I saw (just last week - sorry, can't remember the link) were something like 50% depreciation over 5 years. Which is actually pretty darn good for a Ford. You gotta be careful about methodology though - make sure they adjust for inflation.
You got that right. BTW: inflation is actually a tax due to the printing of more money, which the government spends. With talk of hiking corporate tax, which is passed onto the consumer in the way of higher prices, you really have significant unknown variables in any projection: supply, demand and inflation. At the end of the day the projections such as you site, are really only good at comparing one vehicle to another.

In Missouri you can sell privately and get the tax back as long as you sell within 6 months of your purchase. There is a simple form and it takes a few weeks to get the check.

I believe in so cal they are getting to even money now with msrp and will hit the below msrp for even the hybrids by end of summer.
Local dealer ( smaller) hasn’t had more than 2-3 on the lot at delivery time has 26 mavericks in stock ,12 or so are hybrids , along with 20 or so broncos which 3 of those are raptor ones !
For San Diego and $5.00/gallon gas that’s saying something with that many hybrids on the lot .there were 5 or 6 additional on back area that had sold papers on them .
I’ll head back next week and do a count again.
Just means got to dump this other hybrid salvage I got soon.

FWIW - I paid $31,300 for my 23 Tremor XLT+Lux with a window sticker of $34,800. That truck in 2024 now has an MSRP over $39k.

When my 24' Bronco came in - nobody was willing to give me more than $29,500 (CarMax) and my dealer was willing to give me $29k.

So it isn't holding it's value here in Central Ohio, but I love it and that is why I kept it.

I never buy new vehicles based on "future value". I buy them because I want them. I really don't care about the fluctuations of the used market.
I buy them based on long term expectations. Budget cost over 10-12 years is what matters to me.

I tend to keep them a long time. Two over 50 years (including the one in my avatar pic), one at 45 years and two over 35 years. Several others are at or over 10 years. If I really like them I keep them, even while acquiring new ones lol.

Just hope it holds til Toyota has a mini hybrid pickup.
You're likely going to be waiting a very long time. Toyota themselves pretty much confirmed last fall that they do not have any plans for a Stout or other smaller pickup in the U.S.

"We don't have anything planned," Toyota brand head Dave Christ said. "We're not announcing anything to the dealers. I won't even say 'yet' because that would suggest it's coming. But certainly, it's something we've looked at."

Carvana just upped what they are offering me by $1,002 for my 2023 Ford Maverick XLT Hybrid from $28,458 to $29,460.

$28,381 was my total out-the-door cost including all taxes and fees with no trade-in so as of now here in Texas it is holding its value.

I just looked at Carvana. I was offered 28K for my 2023 XLT lux Hybrid with 11,000 miles. I paid $23,900.

My 2nd hybrid order was delivered to Chapman last week. The same XLT lux hybrid would have cost 31K. Although I should be able to sell mine privately for 29K to 30K, I turned it down.

Older models have held their value, with all the price increases the past 2 years, not so much.
