Do any of these apps use data, when using with a smart phone?
Asking, only because I do NOT have a smartphone. Yet! Just a basic
flip phone, for calls, or text messages. But, looking to get a second hand
smartphone, just for use with my truck, whenever it arrives.

What about something like SiriusXM, or music?
Or I am I best off, to get an SXM reciever and plug in?
Same with music, load from computer to phone?

Just gathering whatever information I can get, before I decide what I want to do!
Thanks.

If you do not want to use data, just load your music from your computer to a USB drive

Yes the fordpass app would use data - an extremely minimal amount is used by apps to pass details, back and forth. The most the ford app would likely ever use those is updating the app itself (which you can set to do only on your home wifi as well).

For Sirius XM, as it isn't offered in either of the radio options, a standalone unit might be the best option if you intend to use it often. Alternately you can stream through whatever phone you get through its app as well, but streaming will mean a much larger chunk of data is needed.

It sounds like you might want to use downloaded music instead. You can do that through the phone, but an easier method may be a small USB drive (you can buy ones that will hold all your music and then some, and stick out about a pinky nail length out of the usb plugin). You'd miss out on sirius radio then, but would have any music you already own available to listen to.

I am not sure what trim level KCHahn ordered but XM is included in the Lariat Lux package with the B&O radio.

I stream SiriusXM to my Airpods for yard work and running so maybe 7-10 hours a week. My billing period ends tomorrow and I only used .8 G of data. I had many XM radios in the olds and the antenna was always such a hassle and my phone actually picks up stations better. If your going to drive a lot of miles it using data you might want a radio. The thing is on the plans now a lot of the channels you can only get through streaming.

Ordered an XLT, LUX. Lariat is a bit out of my price range.
SXM, while not necessary, might be a nice alternative
to radio, or USB. Maybe in areas, if on a trip, where radio
reception might be spotty at best! But, because of kidney
dialysis, I’m not exactly able to escape humanity for a short
trip, unless I go in first thing on a Friday, so I can leave by Noon.
And be back home sometime Sunday.

Again, just looking for information. Can decide what I want to do
once I actually get my truck, or at least find out when it’s scheduled for production!
Anyway, appreciate the information received so far!
Thanks.

I still like the idea of. Raspberry Pi running Android Auto (does garmin have gps for AA? That would be cool) or some non live data system.

same thing can be done with a Mac Mini and ApplePlay.

the loss is real time traffic stats.

I used to use Wi-Fi for most everything like downloading songs on Spotify to play later, Sygic for offline maps, and the FordPass app. I did get service with a data plan for $15/mo that seems to be more than enough data with all that through Mint, too so I get traffic thru Sygic, plus can stream some if needed, too. (its a T-mo Wholesaler, so it is limited to T-mo service area).

I use Spotify, make my own play lists. Free with ads or 10
A month no ads. I plug blue tooth reciver into auxiliary in on car and have wireless music from my phone. I prefer this to XFM. I also ad a small headphone amp and it really bumps up the volume.
