So I had an extremely unusual thing happen to me. I have a 24 tremor with 17300 miles on it.. Last weekend I towed my camper, before towing at 75 miles an hour. I would get about 26 miles to the gallon. After towing, said camper, same speed, maybe even a little faster, and i'm now averaging about thirty six miles to the gallon.. Has anybody else experienced a mileage increase after towing something???
Am getting 30/35 on highway at 70mph and 2k rpm my local miles isn't great 17/18 but improved this week to 19/20 when the weather cooled off I think the heat is effecting the mileage.

Thank you for Resupporting the point I'm trying to make, it is completely possible All my driving is highway, Constant speed not varying

I have a 2023 Tremor XLT 2.0 turbo that average 26 mi I have found that the outside weather temperature has a lot to do with gas mileage, in the 70's-80's temperature it gets the best at 30mi average but in the triple digits it's anywhere from 23 miles to 26 per gallon, and on a 250 mi one way trip freeway and mountain driving I got 33 miles per gallon doing the speed limit, I now have 33000+miles trouble free on my maverick in the summer in the triple digits I use regular gas and winter I use premium,

I wish I could get the kind of milage that you guys get. 35 mpg from an ecoboost? Sounds fantastical.

He's getting ~35-36 MPG in a Tremor during the same conditions I get 50-52 MPG in my Hybrid.

Success is relative. 🤓

So I actually experienced this last week. My 22 FX4 with Wildpeak AT’s has consistently on my trips to Boone Nc which I make about one to two times a month from Charlotte pulls 28 mpg. Almost all highway 65-80 mph running mid grade gas. Last week on my way home, I stopped for the first time in a year I put in 87 lowest tier gas. Reset all my settings and after 2 hours, 130 miles I was at 34.7 mpg. My truck has never seen these numbers, not once! I’ve always been on the forum shocked by the mileage others were quoting for the Ecoboost. I have no clue what happened last week, my trucks mileage estimator is usually pretty close when I check it at the pump maybe 1-1.5 off at times but no matter what I’ve never seen my Maverick read out those numbers.

The cliff notes version:

High humidity displaces some oxygen meaning the engine can burn less fuel per cycle = higher MPG at the cost of lower power.

From an aviation site: High humidity can reduce oxygen for combustion the same as making 8000 ft ASL feel like 9000 ft ASL to your engine, with the associated reduction in horsepower.

For more reading:

"If dry air at a given temperature and pressure has some volumetric fraction of another gas (e.g., water vapor) added, then we lose that same fraction of each component dry air gas, including oxygen, and available horsepower is lost as a result. This is the point at which humidity begins to affect horsepower.

The Society for Automotive Engineering (SAE) specification J1349, published in August 2004, gives a hint at this issue, correcting normally aspirated horsepower to a Detroit standard equivalent with another formula. It converts observed horsepower at a given temperature and dry air partial pressure to what would be measured in Detroit, and is useful at ambient pressures where most cars are made, e.g., well over 900 millibar, or less than 3000 feet msl. The SAE’s formula, plus an explanation is available online at tinyurl.com/avsafe-sae"

Your car has an O2 sensor.
As O2 goes down, the fuel used goes down in proportion.

That’s an interesting concept. It has been a very wet summer and that particular day in the mountains was slightly cooler. Seems like a big swing of almost 7 mpg from those factors alone.

So, how does the Tremor tow in general? I want the Tremor, but I'd rather be able to tow 4000 lbs instead of 2000 lbs.

I actually did not even know my camper was there..It's 3100 pounds dry, about 3600 the way I had it loaded. I put a set of air ride helper airbags in the back Did not drop rpms or speed uphill it actually towed really good, i'm super impressed and in my opinion would say go for the tremor and add some airbags like I did you'll be perfectly fine

From an aviation site: High humidity can reduce oxygen for combustion the same as making 8000 ft ASL feel like 9000 ft ASL to your engine, with the associated reduction in horsepower.
This explains a reduction in power output, not an increase in efficiency. All other things being equal, it requires the same amount of horsepower to maintain 70 mph no matter high the humidity is. The only difference to the driver would be a slight increase in accelerator pedal pressure to get the lost power back.

I would be very interested if you would run several tankfuls through and hand compute. There are many, many variables that can affect fuel efficiency computations, and they tend to average themselves out over a few tanks. Older Ford owner's manuals used to recommend hand measuring over at least three tanks to get accurate fuel mileage.

I've put almost three complete tanks threw it since that And i'm still averaging about 32.4 miles to the gallon, so it's dropped a little bit, but it's still very significant

Then I misread your posts. It sounded like you said you were adding two or so gallons at a time. Have you used an entire tank before refilling?
