On the subject of doors, so far I have yet to put a water bottle in any of the doors of my Maverick. They water bottle pocket is very over-rated in my opinion. I’d rather have a pocket in each door for things like a small umbrella, a wallet, a pair of gloves, a flashlight…. You know, the stuff we all have in our cars. Ideal solution? To me, go ahead and put the water bottles in the rear doors, and put a pocket in the front doors. Much more useful.
I can confirm the water bottle holders in the door are overrated. The fit 1L bottles, but they can be no wider that 2.5inches. When you find a bottle that fits there’s no guarantee that it will snap into place as advertised. So when you close the door the water bottle pops right out and onto the floor.

I guess the idea sounded better on paper.

Say what you want, I don't wear my feelings on my sleeve. Just a few answers to people, I didn't look for any problem, I opened the door when I was in a parking lot and the door flew out of my hand.
In the 70's the doors weighed over 200 lbs and had a big spring with a lever with 2 notches that limited opening.
I don't have a scratch or a dent in my new maverick, I want to keep it that way.
Life to me has been a constant struggle to make things better around me, it was my hope that someone would realize the problem and come up with a fix.

I was undoing my seatbelt with one hand when I opened the door with my other hand and it flew open when the wind caught it, some cars had a limiting strap on the door so it wouldn't damage the hinge.

You have wind blowing from the rear a lot? 🤢
Do you knowingly park into the wind? It’s as likely to be from the rear as from the front.

Yes I think it's a millennium thing they'd rather ride than do anything physical. I hate to see this country when we are gone. Baby boomers last of people who aren't scared to work.

🙄 Seems the boomers weren't good parents or grandparents then....

For me, I’m used to having a hole in the arm rest to grab onto when it is windy; and with the Maverick, it is odd to have so little to grab and hang onto. Guess it’s down to getting used to it.
I'm still waiting for my Mav (Oct 2021), but am apprehensive regarding the odd design of the armrests in the front doors. I have absolutely no use for the "water bottle" capability feature, but the absence of a full-length armrest could well prove problematic...my dog insists on sitting in my lap during car-rides, and the armrest is where she puts her feet. I can foresee needing to rig something up to span that gap. Certainly not the end of the world but definitely an annoyance.

Except in the 70’s those doors were so heavy it took a hurricane to blow the door open. 🤣😂😁
...ah yes, the good old days when cars were built with wretched excess, lol.
I had a '77 Cougar XR7, 2-door model; $a tad under $7-Grand out the door. Those doors must've been 6-ft long. And there was probably 3-ft between the front face of the radiator and the grille (which was hinged to deflect in the event of impact). The hood was about half an acre of sheet metal.
And the back seat was cramped.
Those were the days, eh?

This is a legitimate concern and deserves a bit of problem solving. 1) park into the wind whenever possible, and be conscious of wind direction. 2) Use the Dutch reach by holding the door handle with your right hand. Not only to keep control of the door, but to turn enough to see any bicyclists approaching from behind. 3) It may be possible to rig up something that fits into the water bottle pocket but extends up to the door armrest.

Good luck, and let us know how you come to terms with this problem. Thank you for the cautionary statement.

Not suppose to have a dog on your lap....Illegal in a lot of states.

Thankfully, not here.
Even had a cop pull-up alongside at a stoplight a week ago, rolled his window down, laughed and said "that just might be the happiest dog I've ever seen".
God bless America, eh?
