There’s a TSB on that, they’re supposed to preform a software update to the PCM.

it’s only affected by cold weather the ICE misfires (can cause check engine light) and runs rough.
Already done that. Didn’t change a thing.

I have doubts they actually did such PCM Update. I have had this symptom myself and after said update, since has resolved the issue.
In fact they did it twice, they did it around May when I was getting the surge and rotten egg smell in cold start ups and it fixed that. They then did the same one a couple weeks ago and it did nothing.

Time to look up your state's lemon law and get started...

My state says 4 visits (I’m at 3) and under 15k miles (I’m at 17k). I have mentioned the buy back and waiting to hear from them. I do not expect them to do this. This is becoming a wide spread issue with hybrids mostly in colder climates, I don’t think ford will voluntarily start a precedent to buy them back. I might try another dealer but my dealer has been very thorough and is working directly with ford, I don’t think I would get any better results. At this point I’m holding out for the 2024 Tacoma and using this as a trade in, if it lasts that long.
The dealer will not start the buy back process for you. You will have to call Ford and initiate the process. It will not be easy but it is doable if you decide to do this.

I hang out on the Mach-E forums and several members have successfully pursued this option. They all start here and if you're serious about this you will to.

Call the 800 number(don't use the chat) and be polite. If you get hung up on call back and be persistent but most of all be polite. Also when the time comes make sure you have a record of EVERYTHING. I can't stress this enough.....EVERYTHING even CSR names and any numbers they give you.

Then it’s considered to be normal, because of the Atkinson Cycle Engine, Tacomas have similar symptoms referred as the “Taco Tick”.
If you saw a Check engine light before and not now, then the update is applied.

take a look here,

once engine gets to temp it should quiet down.

with that said, since you’re so dissatisfied with your Maverick I’m sure someone is willing to purchase it at a deep discount.
Since it’s broken ;)

You think it’s normal? You heard the video right? Sure the check engine light hasn’t come back “yet” but that sound has not changed and it’s far from normal.

Does it change once it’s warmed up? If so, it’s normal. Just look up Taco Tick.
Yes, I’ve seen the video.

My hybrid spent 10 days at the dealer with supposedly “No symptoms” had it back one day and it’s still shaking away. Here’s the video for your viewing pleasure. There’s a lot of hybrids doing this so ford (if they choose to address this) will have their hands full. I finally asked my dealer to see if ford would just buy this back from me but I’m assuming they won’t.

You cannot ask the dealer to ask Ford to buy it back. You need to inquire directly with Ford to start a formal review process. Good luck

Once in gear it goes away. Only does it in idle in park.

Sounds like it changes the timing in drive while the engine is on versus in park idling.

im not an engineer but maybe the techs from Ford can fill you in.

Sounds very wrong. This is my second hybrid with this type of ICE and its still not normal sound. Both have more engine shake at idle then I like ( camping in sleep deprived conditions) but nothing but a startup jolt.

Mine did this idling a few weeks ago. I rarely have it idling with ICE running so have only had once. It does make brief similar shutter rattle most times when the ICE shuts off while driving/idling.

I had a 2019 Kia Niro with a Atkinson Cycle Engine and it never sounded like that. I live in Western Pa. so winter is pretty cold. If the noise stops in gear that sounds more like a CVT issue.
