I owned a Prius previously and I know if the Hybrid system is too hot it will pull power, when it was like 105f in Texas I had my Maverick pull power. It's a big deal because you lose power but once you get moving things cool down. My issue is that it was 80f on the highway doing 75 (Speed limit on some highways) and as soon as I exited and started driving on city streets I noticed it was down power, which concerned me a little.

Once I started to get back on the highway It was pulling power on the ramp and wouldn't let me go over 50% which started to make me worry, after driving awhile on the highway I floored it as a test and it would let me tap 75% power and that was it. Once I got home I let it sit 30 mins and took it out again and now I was able to get 100% of power.

There's no CEL, I checked the coolant and it was fine, no strange noises or anything like that. I typically drive in Normal mode but I was testing out Eco and Performance on the highway but even changing modes did not unlock 100% power.

Anyone have this issue before? I don't want to get stranded somewhere but this has never happened before.

I really think that when this happens there should be a specific warning on the instrument cluster that explains what is happening and why, with details.

I want to be informed as to why my vehicle is doing things, especially if they are not things that I commanded.

I had this happen one day. Went on highway and gauge wouldn't go past 50% (it felt like the electric motors were not assisting the gas engine, because when I floored it the engine revved up, just had very little power.) I pulled over, turned off and on the car and it still did the same thing. The whole time coasting and accelerating it felt like it was regen braking as well. After a few minutes of this, the CEL turned on, red triangle in dash came on and cluster screen popped up a message to stop immediately. At the same time the gas engine quit and the car lost all power in the middle of the highway at 70mph. It gets worse, because as I said earlier it seemed like the car was in full regen mode and as soon as the engine quit, instead of gingerly coasting and pulling over to the shoulder, like you'd expect, the car just lost all power and went into full regen braking mode. I barely had time to cut across 2 lanes of traffic and pull over to the shoulder. Once stopped I restarted the car a few times to no avail, it wouldn't even let me shift out of park. After I started calling tow companies, I figured I'll try to get a video of what it's doing, at which point the car started like normal and I drove away like nothing ever happened. The CEL stayed on for a day and went off by itself. Ford dealer said they were able to pull trouble codes and see that this happened. But they were not able to replicate the issue and nothing was fixed.

I love the car, but just a PSA to all hybrid maverick owners, if your car is not going above 50% power, maybe stay in the right lane and be prepared to pull over quickly if the main engine quits.

I took it it out for about 70mi today and it worked just fine, sounds like it might be another recall

I've driven every day for a week since this happened and it's been fine. I'm just wondering how they're going to figure out what's causing the issue when it's an intermittent problem, and a pretty rare one at that.

This problem is a serious safety concern as well, I can see a person who is not too car savvy getting caught off guard and stalling in the middle of a busy highway. I like to think of myself as fairly mechanically inclined, and I nearly did just that.

I ended up filing a report with the NHTSA. If enough people experience this problem and report it, they will be forced to investigate and hopefully fix the issue.

For now like I said earlier, if you experience the 50% power issue, best stay in the right lane and be mentally prepared pull over in case the gas engine quits and you lose all power.

Stay safe!

Hi there, I'd be happy to look into your Maverick power concerns on my end. Will you send us a message with your VIN and dealership info? I can look into things on my end.

Hello there. This does not sound like the kind of experience we want you to have with your Ford Maverick. Will you send us a message with your VIN and dealership info? I can look into things on my end.

Hopefully it is not a P0811 code.

I had my check engine light come on with code P0811 after passing a vehicle on a two lane highway. This occurred 300 miles from home on a 2700 miles road trip. Had to do quite a few high speed passing on two lane roads to pass slow moving vehicles doing 5-10 below speed limit. Stopped to hook up ODB2 to get the code when it occurred. Drove home the rest of the way without passing.

Took it to dealer a day after I got home to report it but they didn't have time to look at it that day.

CEL had not returned since. I also have not had a chance to do another road trip since. It'll be Dec before I take another road trip.

Search the forum for P0811 to see other discussions on the matter. Not sure if there were any software update to prevent the error. Just something to keep in mind.

I had this happen today. I was in eco mode, took a highway ramp and accelerated to merge, wouldn't let me go over 50% power. Tried different driving modes, made no difference. It was very jerky when slightly pressing gas, like it was trying to accelerate and regenat the same time. Regen worked fine when foot off gas, no jerking while accelerating either but limited to 50% power. No check engine light or notifications. I stopped, turned the vehicle off for a few minutes and it was back to normal. I will report if it happens again.

Yup same exact issue i had, felt like it was regen braking as well as accelerating. I'm wondering if the electric motor was out of phase somehow. That would explain the feeling of accelerating (gas engine) and regen braking (electric motor.)
