My new Lariat hybrid with 500 miles seems to be losing engine coolant. No leaks on the ground under the engine, or leaks anywhere I can find, but it's gone through almost 2 quarts of fluid since I picked it up with 25 miles on the odometer. I have experienced an on again, off again, on again check engine light for the past couple of weeks and I have a service appointment scheduled for next Thursday the 29th (first appointment I could get). Anyone else experienced this problem? I'll post what they find after the service appointment.

very first thing to do - pull the oil dip stick and look for milky looking oil. If it is, stop driving it and have it towed. If that's good top it off as needed and take it in as planned.

Thanks. No block heater installed and first thing I did was check the oil dip stick. Everything there looks fine.

Found there are odd whiff of oil, brake and coolant smells after the first couple of longer trips as things reach top heating.
Especially coolants. They debubble and expand into expansion tank/fill area early on.

Hi there. This leaking coolant concern doesn’t sound like something we want you to experience with your Maverick. Could you please send us a PM with your VIN and the name and location of your Ford dealer? I'd be happy to look into how I can assist you on my end.

I have an appointment at Frontier Ford in Anacortes on Thursday to check out the coolant problem. I bought a gallon of the recommended engine coolant at my local auto parts store and have used almost half of it to keep the overflow tank filled. I suspect the truck visit will be an overnight stay so I'm hoping they'll give me a loaner. Other than the coolant issue the truck seems to be running fine.

Coolant leak update: I took the Maverick into my local Ford Service and after exhaustive testing, they simply cannot find any leaks. The engine warning light has not come on since they initially poured almost two quarts of antifreeze into the overflow tank a couple weeks ago. Which leaves me with the theory that the overflow tank was darn near empty when the truck left the factory and then it sat in a Portland, OR train yard with a loose overflow tank cap for almost 4 months before delivery to my dealership (that's another long sad story). Anyway, I'm about half convinced the dealership simply missed it when doing their pre-delivery checks and inspections before handing it over to me.

My maverick is similar but not as much as yours. Dealer told me it was “condensation that forms in the inside of the cap”. I’m sure it’s not and will end up being another issue with this POS.

Even if your 'Check Engine' light is not currently on the fault should be retained in memory and can be read with a scan tool. Might be another clue.

Does each person know which cooling system they are looking at? This truck has a few different ones.

Any updates on this? I noticed the other day that my hybrids coolant level was right at the minimum line (cold engine, at 8500 miles). Which is technically fine, but I'll definitely be keeping an eye on it.
