I have had a lot of really bad Std radios in my time; but back in the day I could go to "Kar Tunes" and get a good upgrade (W/CD) for about $500. But I guess I am just an old geezer. So get of my lawn. Am planning to use USB & XM at first. For you non audiophiles the reason CD's will be missed by Geezers is the compression of streaming audio is severe. I am sure someone will come up with a solution other than changing the speakers which helps "output" but not "input". Come on guys Signal to Noise in a cheap CD player is typically more than 100 db.
I must be an older geezer than you. I recall when people complained of CD's compression over vinyl. And I heard the other day that in 2022 vinyl actually outsells cd's. Motorola got its name from putting a record player in a car! But CD's were sure better than 8tracks and cassetes.

I changed the antenna on mine to a 16 inch version I found on ebay, was only $10 & it increased reception by about 5-10 miles on FM & a little more on AM, not a lot, but I am rarely more than 20 miles from home, so a couple stations I could barely pick up are now clear out here in the sticks.

Yes CD's are compressed; but the s/n of vinyl is about 65 db and CD's are at least 30 db better, plus vinyl wears out and CD's donot. Also it is hard to put vinyl in a car. But the really significant issue with ALL audio streaming is severe compression compaired to CD's. I am old school and like tube amps and vinyl; but in todays market I cannot afford quality old school audio. Thanks for the discussion.

Was delivering a player piano to guy a long time ago. He had vintage McIntosh setup. Gave us a nice tip.

Pretty horrible. For AM stations, (in Los Angeles), I can pick them up if I'm within about 25 miles of the broadcasting tower and even then it's a bit staticky. In my Corolla, I can pick up the same stations crystal clear 200+ miles away.

FM is a little bit better but still pretty staticky. I lose stations depending on which direction the car is pointed.
