I'm not getting any message and the fob is not programming.
I don't recall having any problem with putting my third one on so now you have me questioning if the fourth one is in fact a bad unit?

I've now tried another 5th unit and cannot get it to program. After putting the two originals in I'm not seeing an indication of it being ready to program a third or fourth. Are you using it on a 24 Lariat?
These are the steps I used to add my keys, '23 Lariat without remote start, but should be the same steps on all Lariats.

- Open center console and remove felt bottom
- Place first existing fob in depression
- Push start button (without foot on brake )
- Count to 3, Remove fob, Push ignition off

- Repeat above steps with second existing fob in depression

- Put new fob in depression, push AND HOLD start button - you should get a message right away on the instrument screen that key programming was successful.

Ok, slightly off subject but i have an XLT and I hate the switchblade for the ignition! I would much rather have a traditional key for the ignition and the fob for locking/unlocking, and remote start. Can I do this?
Yes. As long as you don't already have 4 keys programmed.

I have 5 keys for my XL.
2 original fob w/buttons keys.
1 programmed fob w/buttons key.
1 programmed transponder chip key, no buttons.
1 non-programmed all-metal key the locksmith gave me. It will only unlock the driver's door and tailgate. it is, of course, weatherproof, and small enough to fit in a Hide-a-Key box. Will only be used if my other key(s) get locked in the truck.

The fob key I bought is this one.
The buttonless transponder key I bought is this one.

Locksmith did the cutting of the keys.
I did the programming, which was easy.

There has been many questions on the keys for our beloved trucks and as a locksmith I can say if you lose all your keys you will more than likely have to tow it back to the dealer until our software is updated. HOWEVER I have confirmed on board programming works if you have the original two keys ( two programmed keys ) - you can program them yourself - that has been mentioned here before. Do this NOW !!! before you loose one of the two keys LOL.

On the XL or XLT trucks you can either add a flip remote or just a standard key ( possibly you might want to add two cheaper keys as a backup ) On the Lariat only the fob will work however the emergency key is not required. I thought I would put links to which keys to purchase and you can take them to a local locksmith just to have cut - as long as you maintain two extra you are in good shape adding in the future.

XL and XLT Keys - I have posted multiple links in case one is out of stock -
Remote headed Keys - $23.99-https://amzn.to/40xtAk7 or $29.95 https://amzn.to/3RpQJAH or $23.99 https://amzn.to/3WVGxAX

If yours has a remote start it would be this key - 49.99- https://amzn.to/3wNgDVG 89.95 2 Pack - https://amzn.to/3jsaBq7 45.29 - https://amzn.to/3WUcmdl

Plastic Headed Keys -
16.95 for 2 - https://amzn.to/3HNZe5h 43.21 Ford Factory Blank ( same Chip ) https://amzn.to/3jklzOD If you are wanting to do a "hide-a-key" this one is the one to use due to it being waterproof.

To program you insert the existing first key, turn on ignition, count to three, take out put in existing second key turn on ignition - count to three - take new third key - turn on ignition - leave on - you should hear a chirp and a message key was successful.

For the Lariat -
58.95 - https://amzn.to/3XT89b7 109.95 - 2 Pack - https://amzn.to/40m014U 37.95 - https://amzn.to/3XaDs0h For the Fob to work / be programmed it doesn't matter if the key is cut or not - it only opens the door if the battery is completely dead.

If your Fob does not have remote start for the 2023 Lariat it is this one - 38.99 - https://amzn.to/40ihWsZ

nostart_.jpg

To program - open center console. Pull up felt cover - place first existing fob in depression - push start button ( without foot on brake ) ignition comes on- count to 5 - remove fob - push ignition off - put second existing fob in depression - push ignition on - count to five - remove fob - push ignition off. take new fob - put in depression push AND HOLD start button down - you should hear chirp and message - key programming successful.

All in all pretty simple procedures and a few dollars and effort now can save you hundreds later !
@Redneck Garage
Unfortunately I have lost one FOB. What can I do to get another, short of going to the dealer?

I bought a used XLT Maverick with remote start fob which came with only one fob. Do I need a dealer to get a duplicate?

Yes i have the same issue. Is it possible for a locksmith rather than the dealer to program a fob if you only have one fob?

And is it now possible for someone other than the dealer to reprogram the codes so if someone has that original lost fob, it can no longer be used?

thanks to anyone who can answer!

My key fob buttons on the new third key don't work after programming. Any suggestions?

Maybe a dead battery?
Changed it for a new battery and it still doesn't work. I have an XL and the third key is a key with the remote start button. Is this why it is not working? Do I have to get the same exact key as my factory keys?

Maybe @Redneck Garage can help. But I'm thinking they may not be compatible.
at least I can still use it as a back up physical key. I don't understand why it would not be compatible because don't XLTs use that key? I wonder if Programming it through FDRS would make it function as it should..

You could probably swap the metal blade with one from a proper remote and not have to get another key cut.

I think the ones with a long remote start range use a different radio frequency.

Amazon for $18. The white parts are not was white as OEM but works after getting a locksmith to hook up laptop and software to program the remote since my mower ate one of my keys/remote and only had one left. This is on a base 2024 Maverick XL with no remote start.
