Trailmaster above has it correct. It is another way to track the car if it is stolen. $399 for $2500 return if it is stolen and they cannot find it. I think my return on investment on this one sucks. I could have spent that money on some neat accessories.

I wasn't thrilled about it, but at that point the dealership pretty had me over the barrel. I'm sure they knew I wasn't going to back out over their wonderful security "upgrade".

Still, if etching new vehicles really is a dealership policy, they should make that crystal clear up front instead of casually mentioning it at the point of sale.

I was looking over the cost of my Maverick and I see they charged me $399 for antitheft. Is this a Ford charge that everyone gets, or is this a local charge by the dealership?
Nothing extra. My salesman at Willowbrook Ford was very up front.

The GPS device they are talking about is probably a tracker that tracks everywhere you drive and all about your driving habits. Read the paperwork fine print because the one they tried to sell me allowed then to gather all that info and sell it to whoever they wanted, and it wasn’t an invasion of my privacy and by the way their data was not secure so anyone could hack it and have the same data. The theft recovery was an oh- by the way. The dealers get paid by this company to add those devices on all new cars and it makes both of them a lot of money gathering and selling your data.
2024's all have GPS built in (ever watch FBI). They also have their own cell service modem to report back to the company on usage, performance, and track mileage. Did you wonder how they knew when it was time to start Emailing you it's time for your 5,000 mile service?

The dealer NEVER has you 'over a barrel'. Get up and walk away. Dealers only rip people off because they let them!

I paid zero additional. Any dealer modifications to vehicle not requested by buyer equals no sale to me.

Did you order or buy off the lot?

Technically an order. I originally ordered a 24 that got held up in production, and was able to finagle a 23 the dealership had ordered. It was a win because it had some of the discontinued options I wanted, for a slightly lower price. I still had to wait about a month for it's arrival from Hermosillo. That said the window etching was tagged on by the dealership, likely on site. It's an underhanded way for them (and their contracted theft "insurance" company) to snatch several hundred bucks from the unsuspecting customer, and it wasn't appreciated.

I have a 2024 Ford Maverick XLT hybrid. Is there a combination tonneau cover and soft/hard topper that would fit my Maverick? I need something that was of course waterproof, but also could temporarily secure my gear from prying eyes. Ideally a hard shell Tonneau cover for everyday use that would pop up to hold taller items for camping, inflatable canoeing, etc.
I was online and saw the truck had just arrived that day. Bought it the next day. I did not order it.
I assume that added it soon after the truck arrived.
Sounds about right.
Years ago I bought a new car out of dealer stock. It had the vin etched into all the glass. The addition charge was $169.
It was their stock, they can do with what they want.
I still chose to buy it. If I had actually ordered a new vehicle, put down a deposit and waited for it to come in and they still added unordered items,
I would be upset.

I believe I paid MSRP. The FX4 component was free, maybe it was an incentive to buy. It was not prepped yet, so they drove it to my house, 100 miles, to deliver it to me. I consider that fair.

Forgot to mention that my dealership told me all new vehicles sold by them have the added "bonus" glass etching. They must be making a considerable amount of money doing this.
