Is there anyone on here with auto manufacturing knowledge who might be able to provide an estimate as to how late they may continue production of the MY22 vehicles before the switch over to the MY23? For instance, if the MY23's are scheduled to start production in mid October, can they produce MY22 vehicles all the way up into early October before changing any tooling or processes? Or do they need to allow more time for the switch over and if so are we looking at September, August, July, ...?

Thank you,

I think I heard Tim Bartz say he thought they would continue to produce MY22 up through August, so another 6 months of production. Then I would assume they would have to do a retool for the next model year, though it will likely require minor retooling as I don't see very many major changes coming for MY23.

There won't be weeks of downtime. They will probably have 2022 and 2023 on same line. They will know x vehicle is 2023 everything after will be 2023.

If there are lots of 2022 parts in the supply chain that don't carry over to 2023 they might push back 2023 to use up these parts. Not a crazy amount of time but a few weeks.

It all depends upon how many changes they make to the 23 model. If they make major change then they have to install new tooling at the factory and re-program the equipment. That can take some time. But most people think they will make minimal changes to the 23s since they can already sell everyone they can make and any extra line downtime are lost sales. With minimal model year changes they may only be down for a week or two between model years.

@Administrator , thank you for moving this thread. I debated back and forth as to which section to post it in. I had a 50-50 chance. This is why I don't gamble. 🤪
