How long before you give up?

How long are you willing to wait before canceling/ buying something else?

There are other vehicles on the market. The hybrid Mav is what I want, but IF I end up needing a car before I take delivery of the Maverick, I will get something else....probably a stock Mav 2.0 (if I can find one).

We don't really "need" the Maverick, wife and I have shared a single car for 6yrs and a truck isn't really a necessity for our lifestyle. So, unless someone comes out with a competitor at a similar pricepoint, we can wait. If we don't have it in a year, I'll start getting really annoyed though.

Well, after listening to last nights weekly bait & switch your build sermon. I am convinced that Ford is intentionally encouraging their dealers to get more people away from the hybrid model, spray liner, bedcover, ect.. I believe Ford may have bitten off more than they can chew [produce] and are now in panic mode. I will wait it out even if it means 2023, 2024!

This it the first vehicle I've purchased that I didn't "need" so while I want it sooner rather than later I have no problem waiting it out.

I really, really want to give Ford the benefit of the doubt, given the fact that we live in a different world, now, where supply chains are concerned.

....but jfc, don't offer a base model and/or options that you cannot/will not actually build.

The hybrid lariat Lux is what I truly want, and I will wait for it until my want is over-riden by a need.

If I do need to buy, before I get my build you can bet it won't be a Ford that I buy.

Man Toyota could completely steal the thunder out of Ford if they announced a Rav4 based Hybrid pickup that would be delivering middle of next year. They could even slap a $25k starting price on it and still pull ahead I bet.
It takes much longer than that to develop a new vehicle. Ford brought the Maverick to market in under three years, which is fast. Even if Toyota just grafted a bed to a Rav4 they would have to go through all the design process for crash protection, build prototypes and test them. It’s a fantasy to think that any other manufacturer can have competitors for the Maverick for at least two years (unless they are already in the process). The vehicles sold in the rest of the world would still need redesign because they won’t meet safety standards.

I am pretty dedicated to waiting but, if my October build gets built but gets paused by the chip shortage and the date of delivery gets pushed back into December, I might look else where. By then ill have my money saved from not having a car since July but I cannot drive my wifes car everyday once the temp drops and I'm not doing a winter on my motorcycle. I really want to wait but if outside factors start to push me, I'm gonna have to jump to my next few choices. I work for a transmission supplier and we have been hit hard with less production recently because of our customers not having chips. So I am not optimistic.

I had to put a $1k non-refundable deposit, so I'm here until the Truck is here, or until it gets canned and they let me roll that $1k into something else.

But my hybrid was scheduled for 10/4 so I'm not too terribly worried.

Wife and I were talking about going to one vehicle, we’re retired. The Maverick is perfect for us for that “one vehicle.” Sold the 236k mile 2000 Subaru wagon, that was our “hauler”. Sold the 32k mile 2017 Subaru Impreza because used car prices at present got us $4000 more than four months ago. Sold the 2001 VW Cabrio because this is the best time of year to sell a convertible. That leaves us no cars. BUT, my son has a bunch of vehicles so we’re driving an old VW Jetta until the Maverick arrives.

I'm thinking this is like a LONG relay race.
Why would I drop out of ANY race that hasn't even started
and won't start for 2 more weeks

My race starts in 6 to 8 weeks, order was placed early last week :p
Bro, the race started when you signed the paperwork. When I placed my order, I thought I signed up for a 5k. At the two-mile mark, they announced it’s now a marathon. At the 10 mile mark, now they’re just telling me to keep running; they’ll let me know when to stop.

… I’m already getting tired. With no finish line in sight, I might just have to throw in the towel on this one.

I know “it’s not even fall yet;” however, there is no evidence any hybrids have been produced, and now we’re hearing there are indefinite delays. 🤦🤦🤦

Yeah, yeah, global shortages. Fine, but do they not have well-paid people who track this💩? How could they not have planned for this potential? Why not just announce production dates for January and stock up best they can?

Oh anyway… Hey, we can all knock Hyundai’s truck, but at least they’re producing them. 🤷🏼‍♂️

Sincerely,
Disgruntled, disappointed hybrid orderer😀

I’m in a position where I can afford to wait. I don’t have an immediate need for a new vehicle, and there’s nothing else out there of interest to me. I don’t need a truck to haul heavy items or tow a trailer. Occasionally I need more space for unwieldy items but I’m not interested in sacrificing the fuel economy I get from my Ford Fusion hybrid. Probably the only “competitor” for me would be something like a Kia Niro, but without the immediate need I’m ok to wait. Trade in value will go down but I’ll also continue saving more cash.

I need a vehicle come winter and I ordered in mid july so If i can get it by december/ january latest ill wait. as frustrating as it is to wait as im not patient on waiting and am tired of this worldwide shortage on everything but it is the way it is i suppose. Im definitely not waiting forever thats for sure. They can give me back my deposit and ill get a tacoma or whatever i can find on a lot if its gonna be pushed back past january. Im carpooling and walking to work as is as of recent which is fine for now. But when snow comes....

I just had to drop $760 into my '97 Camry - suspension work that was a safety issue. Since I've done that and because otherwise the Camry is running great, I can wait another year if I have to. The time will allow me to just save up more for the down payment. If nothing happens by next summer, then I'll probably go shopping for a Ridgeline.

Since I have 2 new vehicles..a 2021 Edge Titanium and a 2021 Transit Connect Titanium passenger van, I can wait for however long it takes.

You didn't have enough choices on your poll. I was thinking, 5 months, 1 week, 6 hrs, and 3 mins..... at which point I was going to flop down in my chair and say, "Screw it" ! But 5 minutes before that, Id still be pretty hopeful :)

Seriously though, I said, "Screw it" about a week after I ordered mine. My GF on the other hand, while anxious, could use some extra time to get her finances straight, and her current car runs great anyway... just horrendous mileage (26 mpg for a 4 cyl car is just stupid).
