The Maverick is my first experience with ACC. I admit I have some trust issues, still, after a few anomalies.

The scenario is: highway speeds, approaching a slower vehicle, signal, move left to pass to get into the clear left lane, and the truck suddenly begins to rapidly accelerate before I've actually cleared the line of sight with the slower vehicle. It's as if the camera(s) get confused with the lane I'm moving from, and the open left lane I'm attempting to move to.

I set my distance for about 4-5 car lengths before the ACC took over. Now I set it for a longer distance to be sure that if this happens again, no chance of collision. Which is OK on a fairly open road, but otherwise I still rely on brake and resume, if cruise is actually safe to use.

That's the way it was designed, when come to a slower vehicle and change lanes, it will floor it to pass. I was surprised by that too.

I didn't get ACC even though we wanted it (22-23 order conversion got mangled at dealer).

I read on a FB group there is some add-on system which adds cameras and is "full self drive", as good-ish as Tesla..
RE: "As good-ish as Tesla..." If you read the reports, Tesla's self driving system is suspected in multiple major accidents. However Co-President-Elect Musk was recently able to get NHTSA to suspend researching Tesla self driving accidents under the pretext of simlifying government. Honest.

Plus the Maverick is not as close as it appears to be from inside the cab.
well, if you're going to drive while watching through the passenger side mirror . . .

:ROFLMAO:

I set my distance for about 4-5 car lengths
Around here, drivers take that as "enough room for two cars to cut you off at once!"

use my acc regularly, both to & from work (currently, '23 f150, waiting on my ordered '25 mav), as well as at work between Marysville & Portland ('25 freightliner cascadia with a 36' refer trailer)..even in heavy traffic, taking upwards of 6 hours for a 225 mile leg of my round trip, I can pretty much set the cruise at 65 & not have to worry too much about braking at all: between the acc & aba (automatic braking assist), lane keep & automatic engine brakes, any monkey can steer the truck to it's destination...admittedly, at times, I'll still hit the brakes as I'm not 1000% reliant on the technology that could possibly destroy either my career or someone elses property/safety

Cruise control has been a requirement for me ever since I drove from Alabama to upstate New York in a bog-standard Dodge Neon when I was in the Army. ACC became a must-have for me after having it on the Escape. Granted, the largest city I drive through regularly is Birmingham, AL, but it works good at managing the distance between me and the car in front. I keep it on two bars while on the interstate but will bump it up to four if I am on a back road.

The main thing is I don't have to worry about feathering the throttle when I get behind an inconsistent driver on a two-lane road. The truck will just handle the speed for me.

The Explorer has intelligent cruise, but its futility is useless in Alabama where going down to the posted limit in most areas will literally get you run over.
