Honestly - my Ford paint (Bronco, Maverick, Maverick) has fared much better than my Honda (Odyssey and Civic) paint.

I also Ceramic coat and take care of it though.

I installed a hood deflector a couple days after purchase. Still got two big chips right in the middle of the hood in the first week. Another on the side of the hood a couple weeks later, one on the passenger side fender and a chunk of paint knocked off the front edge of passenger side rear door in the last week. Coming from a Bronco, I try very hard not to follow closely, or get behind trailers/concrete trucks/ lawn maintenance or construction trucks.

The big ones on the hood, I saw the rock coming at me on the freeway, but couldn't avoid it. Put a couple small chips in the windshield too.

I'll never but another new vehicle without PPF on at least the hood/front fenders again.

Pretty much all modern paint on economy cars are easily damaged from rocks and road debris.

I did full front PPF. A few days after I installed it some lady couldn't miss her exit and crossed over where a ton of rocks were and kicked one up right into my front bumper. PPF saved it but damaged the PPF. Thankfully it's on a section that is easy to replace when the time comes!

Blame the EPA, they required the water based paints and regulate how much paint is sprayed. The manufacturers are fined if they use more paint than allowed.
No, only Ford can be blamed. Those are the forum rules.

So is that stone chip all into the PPF or did it remove the paint down to the bare metal? It looks like bare metal to me but it's hard to tell sometimes. Did you do the PPF yourself or have it done professionally? What brand of PPF did you use? I like the idea of PPF but I don't like the cost of having it done professionally but maybe I'm just cheap:)

I have rust bubbling under my paint on front door. Looks like a smaller version of the OP's roof.

Extremely disappointed as at 18 months old I only have 6,500 miles and it's garaged 98% of the time, 24/7. It's been in the rain maybe 4x.

Well the front bumper is plastic but it just the PPF was hit. It's discolored because of the plastic tear but looking at it closely the paint is intact. Even if it wasn't, it probably saved it from most of the damage.

I paid to have it installed with Ceramic Pro Kavaca PPF. I've used a number of different brands (XPEL, etc) and I found them to be largely the same for daily driver use.

It's not cheap that's for sure lol. One could argue that the cost would be more than repainting the front bumper but I hate the sight of rock chips personally.

Oops I just looked at the picture again and can see it is indeed the bumper and not the hood (my bad). Glad to hear that the PPF saved the paint chip for you.

I remember the old lacquer paint jobs and they too would chip. the difference was when they chipped it took a pint of paint to touch it up because it was so think. :) Actually lacquer was worse than new paints with clear coat.
Yeah, Ford was lousy back then, too!

EPA is active in Mexico?
As I mentioned before, Fender Guitars sends their bodies and necks across the border to have finishes applied because the high quality (and affordable) stuff is illegal in Merkuh. Then they get trucked back and assembled.

Wrap it.
I specifically wrap the front end hood for this reason
I used wrap on the hood of my Sprinter cuz it was especially prone to rock chips. Worked excellent at prevention. Seeing your truck, I might consider doing it to the Maverick.

The EPA doesn't fine Ford is they use LESS paint than the maximum allowed. What makes you think Ford uses the maximum allowed??:unsure::unsure: You are being quite kind...............

too thick of paint and it starts cracking. There is a thickness for each chemical blend that is just right. Of more concern would be the primer, since that is the rust prevention.
