I was finally able to order the front lower bumper (FX4 - tow hooks version) after a lengthy backorder of this aftermarket part ($272.25 + tax). This is what I found upon opening the box - apparently someone thought they had the perfect solution for fitting the slightly longer part into the almost long enough box (it would’ve fit well enough…🙄):

I thought about returning it, but after careful inspection of the warped part, I decided that using my trusty Harbor Freight heat gun, I could likely reshape the bent/folded areas good enough to restore the part to usable condition. It ended up being good enough (pretty good actually) that when it’s actually bolted on sometime down the road, it’ll look like it was never bent and folded up by that certain individual in the shipping dept taking shortcuts.

But look at the $$$ you saved by buying an aftermarket part from Taiwan!

Well what would one expect, probably child labor proud they found a way to get it in the box.
I know that cruel, but geez wouldn't one would normally select a larger box or modify two of what they had to make one a little longer?

Taiwan is not China.
Child Labor Regulations in Taiwan
Taiwan's laws strictly regulate the employment of individuals under 18:
  • The legal minimum age for general employment is 15.
  • Children under 15 may work only under specific exceptions, such as having completed junior high school and only if the work is not detrimental to their health and development, requiring approval from labor authorities.

Apparently, it's detrimental to their health and development if children are denied the opportunity to be creative by stuffing parts that are too large into boxes that are too small.

I cannot say with certainty, but I would guess that automotive parts like these are shipped in bulk from the originating country in a large container - in this case Taiwan, housed in some distribution wholesale facility here in the states, and then possibly boxed and shipped individually from there to the destinating auto parts companies. Again, I’m just guessing.

I would at least taken a picture of it how it arrived in the box and sent them the picture and see if they would have refunded some of Your money.

Great minds think alike. I did just that, and in the end their “representative” offered a partial $40 refund, which I felt was fair and appreciatively accepted.

I’ve done bodywork for over 20 years and have had dozens of bumpers delivered like this. It’s pretty normal. Just sit it in the sun or somewhere warm for a day or 2 and it’ll go to its normal shape and be fine. In the winter we would put them in a paint booth with the heat on,

I worked at a body shop for a couple years and in the parts department. We got stuff like that all the time. Usually we sent it back because time is a money there. They definitely don’t care about the product they send out, no quality assurance or pride in work. Don’t worry it will only get worse.

To the OP.

I commend you on your level-headed thinking. Many people wold have screamed bloody murder and suggested that you lawyer up.

Yes it came all wonky, and yes the shipper sucks at sending out their products. But you took the easiest path out of the situation and put some heat on it and called it good.

Normally I would bash you for using Harbor Freight products but I won’t turn into one of the people that I am already complaining about.
Happy day.
Bob

Interesting... I assume that would work if there was no permanent crease from folding the part when it wasn't warm...
