You did pull the release handle twice, right?

So yours got stuck shut too? Or you just had the issue where when you opened it, you had to lift on it while someone else pulled the lever a second time?

If you had it stuck at one point, how did you resolve that?
After adding hood struts it sometimes stuck partially open when pulling the lever twice. I had to prop the handle open then lift the hood. I think the hood alignment shifted just enough when installing the struts to catch the hood latch too much. I lowered the two rubber bump stops on the top of the grille housing and so far it seems to be just loose enough to open normally.

The Mavs have had issue with the release cable falling off of the handle you pull twice to release. Mine has done it three times now. My dealer has a new cable and release handle on order. Search it and you will see others have had the issue and how to at least get the hood open.
That was it. THANK YOU!

I went out and was able to use my finger to "hook" the actual cable attached the handle behind the trim panel. That took up some additional slack so that when I pulled the handle, there was enough cable movement to pop the hood!

Seems as though this is definitely a common issue with the Maverick. At least now I know what's going on, and how to temporarily deal with it. Seems as though a trip to the dealer will be in order at some point, to perhaps get a more permanent remedy at some point soon.

Again, thanks for the heads up. Here is a link to another thread I found with some pictures that helped me get it sorted out. The MTC community is a godsend!

Thanks. I just got it opened and ordered that spring some of the other folks had. It'll be here tomorrow!

Damn man I was all worried cuz @Ponchsox convinced me to pull that trigger on the hood strut lol.

Bullet dodged.

Story time:
I had a POS Renault when I was stationed in Germany and drove it everywhere. Made it back to post (base) after a long 4 day weekend trip I don't remember where other than every bar they had in that city but easily 500 miles accumulated in travel.

I get in line to have my ID checked and get up to the gate guards and just as he hands me back my ID and I'm starting to take off the clutch cable breaks. I knew it without even looking because my foot went to the floor. So we push it out of the way real quick, close the door, forget something so I try to open the door and the handle breaks off...

It gets better... Pushed it around the corner where my barracks were, luckily it was a small post in Bamberg and all I had to do was shout to get half a platoon out of the barracks to help push this pile of crap the size of a geo metro around the corner.

Park it, open the door with my Gerber again and try to pop the hood... The hood latch breaks...

Sold it for $400 lol. Easy fixes but I was changing duty stations anyways back to the states. Then... (This parts unrelated to the latch/cable issues but still funny)

I get something in the mail the week I'm there after having sold the car 2 weeks before. It's a ticket with the previous owner, one of my NCOs (black male, I'm white) caught speeding on camera but because the way the registration works it was tied to the vehicle or something crazy. Vehicles get passed around on posts quite frequently. He was looking right at the Camera with that perfect "yep, they got me" face. Now I have to get this clear so I can PCS (change duty stations).

Took it into the polizei station outside of town to get it dismissed and they had like 4 dudes have to come out and visually compare an obvious not me picture to me, like, hold it up next to my face and mumble in German to each other like I didn't Sprechen sie Deutsch... They were trying to give me the ticket just for being American... Anyways...

Got it dismissed and made sure the registration was not tied to me anymore. Just thought I'd share that. 3 different cables in one day (well, one was a latch) and the ticket was icing on the cake.

That was the first and last manual transmission I've ever owned lol (and obviously the last Renault).

The Maverick is my new Renault. :ROFLMAO:
Please, hood cable, don't break on me.

PTSD intensifies...

I have ran in to this problem and here is what I had found, the struts actually make the hood pop up more than normal on the first pull which makes it difficult for the hood to be released fully on the second pull. Applying slight pressure down on the hood while being released solved this problem in the 2 cases I experienced. Think of it like : if you pull on a room door knob prior to trying turning the knob it is much harder to get the door open because pressure is being applied to the striker by the plate on the door jam....I hope that makes sense lol

Yes it makes sense. I also now believe the pull lever doesn't actually provide sufficient cable tension when pulled.

Same issue here. No way to get the hood open. Took it to the dealer and they said the hood release cable came apart. They ordered a new part and will be doing the repair tomorrow.

Guys, I have the aftermarket hood struts installed. No issues until today. Popped the hood once, but couldn't get it up all the way.

In the past, I have had someone hold the lever up so I could get it to release all the way while I gave some gentle pull on the partially opened hood. However, this evening no one else was around. So, I just closed the hood. No problem, right? Wrong!

Now the hood won't open at all! Needless to say, I am pretty annoyed. Really do not want to have to take this into the dealer to get un-stuck. Anyone else out there experience this, or have a solution?

I have seen a thread where someone installed a spring-loaded bumper to avoid the partial open, which may be something I need to add going forward. But right now, I just need to get the hood open again. Turning to my MTC family for advice. What'ya got?

Here's a video showing the cause, how to fix it and then add the spring to keep it from happening again.

Have you seen any further threads where getting the cable pushed back up to its spot and clicked into place STILL doesn't get the hood open ? Mine opens a bit on the first try , but then the 2nd pull does not do anything, not even move the cable . I feel like the release lever on mine might be disconnected somehow idk. But I need my hood open like a week ago lmao
