Actually the post you've called out is exactly what Ford says to do. There is a TSB on this from Ford for both the Bronco Sport and the Maverick.

https://static.nhtsa.gov/odi/tsbs/2021/MC-10202628-0001.pdf

You have to be careful, yes. You have to be careful in lots of ways to not damage your car. But saying that Ford's instruction is why people are damaging their hoods is 100% false. People are damaging their hoods by pulling up on the blades while the blades are parked.
Really??? You're going to use Ford's procedure for replacing wiper blades as an excuse for people who leave their wipers up in anticipation of snow/ice? Nowhere in there does Ford recommend using this procedure as a means for keeping your windshield wipers in the up position for snow ice. They recommend it for replacing wiper blades because they know you're going to put them right back down on the glass and there won't be any issues when you restart your vehicle. Leaving them up overnight is a recipe for disaster because like I said, people will forget, or they'll remote start with Fordpass or someone else will go out and start their vehicle.

The OP didn't say anything about why he stood the wipers up, but who cares? What would you have him do, exactly? To stand them up, they need to be vertical on the windshield rather than parked. The only solution to this is to use the Ford procedure and then do not forget you did it.

Frankly, I don't care what your opinion is on this "recipe for disaster". He can either damage his hood by lifting the wipers out of the park position, or he can damage his hood by starting the vehicle while the wipers are standing up. OR he can remember to put the wipers down before starting the car.

Those are the options if you do not have a Maverick with the windshield wiper de-icer.

Why are you doing that anyway as these Mavericks have deicer warmth area at the wipers similar to the rear widow defroster. Well this is on Canadian versions anyway.

Recommending this practice for anything other than changing the wiper blades is irresponsible. In my almost 30 years of vehicle ownership I have probably changed a couple of hundred wiper blades and not once have I ever put new blades on and not put the wiper arm back down immediately. It doesn't take a rocket scientist given what is in his photo as to WHY the damage happened. The fact that there's a youtube video out there recommending this as a practice during snow storms is so irresponsible. If you think Ford is recommending this to be done for snowstorms then do it to your Maverick and ask Ford to warranty the paint repair and if they laugh at you for any less than 2 minutes I'll buy you a pizza

Not all USDM Mavericks have this feature. I'm guessing the OP does not have it.

Man, this forum needs a "draw photo" feature for posts like this.

This has nothing to do with snowstorms. This has to do with the design of the Maverick wiper system. You cannot raise the wiper arms from the wiper park position. Period. If you're going to need to stand the wipers up, you're going to have to first put them in the service position.

I'm sure Ford's recommendation is to buy a Maverick with the correct packages to have wiper de-icer.

Pretty thin paint. Being along the edge it might be easy to use touch up paint.

Dude, YOU'RE the one who needs it explained to you because you're reading comprehension is awful. DON'T STAND YOUR WIPERS UP, SIMPLE AS THAT UNLESS YOU'RE CHANGING THE BLADES. You think this Ford is the only vehicle with this same circumstance where the wiper blades are mostly tucked under the hood for better aerodynamics? It doesn't take a genius to realize you shouldn't stand the wipers up for ice and snow. If you're going to sit there and tell me that this damage happened while OP was changing his wiper blades then you're as clueless as you are arrogant. If people need wiper protection from the elements find another way instead of standing them up, they make special ice blankets for that.

Wipers won’t work in app start you have to get in car and turn key to on or push start button for wipers to work with remote start

I don't think you understand what's going on here. They are turning on the wipers, waiting for them to go to the top (12 o'clock) position, then turning the key off and lifting them up off the glass in the event of snow/ice. The problem with this is that even if you turn the wiper switch off after the ignition is turned off, they still return to the down position once the car is started so if you forget to put the wipers down on the glass before starting the vehicle whether in person of via remote start, you're going to damage your paint.

Your suppose to put wipers back on glass before starting or if remote start put wipers down when you get in car and putting key in or hitting start button

Thank you for stating the obvious. The issue is that people are forgetting because it's easy to with features like Fordpass remote start. I'm saying this is a terrible practice to get into because it's inevitable that at some point people are going to forget or some other person in the household will start the car, there are plenty of scenarios where it can happen. All I'm saying is stop doing this on the Maverick because there are other ways to keep snow and ice out of your windshield wipers, they make snow/ice blankets that cost under $50 and are so much cheaper than a new paint job on your hood.

I know I would damage the paint on my car so I went and put some black padding on the wiper blades. You can not see the padding unless you look down in the wiper area. It does cushion the wiper against the paint.

I just used one side of black Velcro.
