With the numbered keypad, I don't see the point. If you lock the keys in the car or something, you don't need a spare hanging out in the hitch (which would also be an easy target for thieves).

If you want to leave stuff behind for "outdoor activities" as the product description says, just leave it all in the truck, including your key, and get back in the truck with the keypad

Since I don't have a keypad (XL), I would just use FordPass to unlock the doors. This hitch safe would be nice if at the beach or somewhere you don't want to carry your wallet, phone or keys. As for being an easy target for thieves, I don't think anyone would suspect that there is a safe in the hitch. With the dust cover on, it looks like just another hitch cover.

I was just wondering whether the someone had purchased one and if it worked.

I have a Lariat and locking the fob in the truck isn't an option. That's like giving your truck away.
There was a picture of a Maverick here with the side window smashed while a guy was hiking. Anything with glass can be breached unless you're in the State Police parking lot.

The lock box has a cover and I doubt if many street punks even know about this box.

Buy the way, the fob won't open anything from the back of the truck unless you hit the unlock on the fob.

For what it's worth an Intelligent Access key automatically is disabled for activating the ignition when it is detected to be within the vehicle at the time it is locked. So locking the fob inside of a Lariat isn't inherently less secure than an XL/XLT with standard key.

I didn't know that. So how is it reactivated. Do you just open the car door and walk a few feet and it's reset and ready to go or is it more complicated.

Did a test. Left FOB in truck and tried to lock the truck and it can't be done. So much for Intelligent Access. Makes more sense not to allow the driver to lock the FOB in car by mistake via purse or some other means.

At least according to the owner's manual it's possible

Judging by the number of reviews (over 4000), it seems that many people have tried it--and that they generally like it.

Not something that I would use, though. That type of locking mechanism isn't very secure, and I'd hate to give a thief an easy way to steal my truck.

I have no idea what's going on. but I can't lock the truck with the FOB on the center console. I will check again. I did have the driver's window down so I could unlock the door. Maybe you can't lock the door with window open, but I think that's highly unlikely.

Anyway, the lock box is not for a FOB. It's for 2 to 3 thousand dollars I carry on trips off the beating track where credit cards aren't accepted. Yes, there still are places like that in mountains where cash is king in the antique business.

How many times have you used the app to unlock? If I haven't driven the car in 2-3 days it won't work I assume due to not enough battery?

Not an issue since I drive my truck almost every day. I hove used the app to start my truck many times (winter months) but only a few times to unlock. It has worked every time for me, but YMMV. Also, I have the 2.0 EB if that makes a difference.

Yeah I have the same. My auto start has also failed a few times. Just too scared to risk leaving the keys in since it has been hit or miss.
