23 hybrid , 1600miles.

Recently (noticed) started a ever so slight vibration / hum at highway 50+ speeds. It's minor but just enough of an annoyance and honestly I can't recall if it was like since new. Drives straight.

Took a look underneath and all looks dry (CV joints). Nothing seems off other than: both front tires other edges feel slightly feathered ? Running my hand clockwise you can feel the "steps" on the outsode, whereas rears are smooth (our other car has same though but drives perfect..so likely not it). Second, rear right wheel has 12 stick on weights compared to 3-6 on other wheels.

Dealer is scheduling 2+ weeks out and needs it for 1-2 days. Thinking about spending $50 myself on a balance first.

Any thoughts ?

Tire shop UPDATE: 3 out of 4 wheels were out of balance and needed more work. 1 was "perfect". Lastly front left road force was around ~22 while others ~10, They balanced best they could and recommended to put the higher one to the rear. So far so good with a brief highway drive but wont know for sure until I take my usual route next week.

Need more details. Do yo have vibration on your wheel? 10-20 per second? Sound like busted wheel bearing. Don't think it's wheel balancing. I have 3x times difference on weights as well. Try to look where noise coming from. Humming noise usually mechanical.

Let dealer consider it. Do not mess with warranty procedure. Could be alignment issue. Could be chip seal on road surface. Try driving on brand newly laid asphalt surface if one is available or just a different surface.

Yes you can feel it in the wheel, gas pedal and generally all over the vehicle. Like I said its faint but just enough to be pain over longer highway drives. Spoke with dealer and already gave me the bs that it can be a general characteristic of the vehicle.

I can't fathom having something major go wrong and dealing with the dealer and at 2 weeks out and needing it for more than a day to diagnose is a joke.

Taking it to get it balanced on Friday at a reputable tire shop and I will go from there.
If issue still persists I'll make an appointment but for $50 and an hour of my time is something I will willing to gamble on.

Your choice and I realize time is valuable commodity, but I would tell the dealer to balance the tires or give me a loaner until they can. This is ridiculous. (n) No loaner, park the Maverick in front of the service bay, lock it and leave it with your phone number. Yes, I am getting to be a grumpy old man!!!!:)

On a brand new car, I can't imagine needing anything more than a balance (or maybe alignment) but stuff happens. I bet in 95% of vibration cases unless its something obvious, most will start with a balance.

It would literally cost them next to nothing to have me drop in for a balance.
Issue fixed = write up a warranty work order and get paid
Issue not fixed = I bring it back for further diag where they can add the balance as part of the fix.

Shop was surprised I was brining in a 23 with next to nothing miles and laughed when I told them the wait time etc at the dealer.

edit: One interesting note is the tire markings. Mine only have a "red dot" whereas the one with 12 weights (right rear) has no marks which could have washed off.

According to mr google, tires with only red dots (no yellow), the dots should align with the valve stem for best performance. All 4 (will assume one with no marking is like this) are not aligned at all with the valve stem and there is no pattern to this...just throwing that out there.

I have a very slight high pitch noise between 53-58MPH. No vibration. It actually reminds me I am speeding on one road I travel on where the limit is 50. :ROFLMAO: Cannot hear it with music on which is most of the time. I have no plans to chase it down unless it gets worse.
