Still driving my 2010 "Big Boy Toy" Ranger but thinking of a Maverick. Thankfully it has really low mileage, under 31K but its not getting any younger. Really didn't want a short bed or lose my 4WD but don't want any part of the monsters out there that don't fit in a parking space. Thing is, besides throwing the occasional Bambi in the bed, I kayak and that short bed with a ladder rack won't support an almost 13' yak very well, even though I do short trips. Definitely don't want to just use a bed extender either. Has anyone put an over the cab roof rack and a single goal post ladder rack at the rear of the bed ?

Looks like a good idea. Not sure anyone has tried this on the Maverick yet. I have a 2010 Ranger XLT regular cab the same color as yours. Nice looking truck!

Cab roof rack ? i did try search first. will try again ! If I can get a roof rack and a rearmost goal post six feet apart, I will be a happy camper. No deer I will ever harvest won't fit in a 4' bed ! Just have to wait for a hybrid with AWD !

Most are cantilevered over the cab but a few have utilized a cab roof rack in combination of bed mounted rack. One in particular did a DIY using square aluminium alloy, I forget the term and number. I will look when I get a chance. Also search for roof channel mounting points. The plastic ended metal channel covers have 4 mounting points on each side that are held on by bolts from below. Access requires headliner removal but is an interesting option.

cantilevered over the cab would work. My Hurricane Skimmer Kayak is only 50 lbs (thermoformed, not the Dicks rotomolded crap.)

One I found is a apparently good one
Ooops did not get link copied
Will look when get chance. Has rear bar over tailgate removable for tall stuff and has truss design for cantilever over rod. One consideration for over cab racks is front crossbar needs to be 6-8" past front of cab to reduce noise at speed.

I have seen several different styles like this one if link works for separate roof mounted style as well as the kits that extends over the cab, but if you search forum in that section (or google internet search altogether) then you can find just about anything - but with only 31k miles on your ranger my opinion would be you have a nice keeper that you barely use already 😉

Yes it just goes hunting for 110 mile round trip, 40 mile round trip for surfcasting and 3 mile round trip for yak launch. And the occasional trip to HD or Lowes for swmbo. But its still 13 years old in a salt air environment

I have seen guys on here loading pairs of kayaks longer than the whole truck on just the bed racks on these without issue. Shouldnt be a problem with quality cradles and strapping.

Yes, since I am a retired white collar guy with no knowledge whatsoever of welding, etc., I am thinking that instead of the six feet apart plain, no cradle TrakRak I have now on my Ranger I may just have to spend the bucks and get four foot apart Thule racks with cradles. As I may have said above, my usual drive to launch my kayak is less than two miles.
