I was quoted $1250 for aftermarket power sunroof installed in Maverick. Hollandia is the supplier of the hardware. Webasto/Hollandia is an OEM supplier of sunroof hardware. I don't have concerns about the quality of the equipment or the installer (installer has been in business for over 25 years and I've seen the quality of their work). Bonus is the deflector is metal and plastic which I prefer over the fabric deflector on the OEM sunroof.

If you do decide to have an aftermarket sunroof installed, I'd recommend seeing the work of the installer in person beforehand.
The factory sunroof has very low noise and turbulence when you have the rear window also open.

I believe the fabric deflector is part of the reason why - it's deflecting some air, and letting some pass through. I'm comfortable assuming that the factory is better, until someone proves otherwise.

It's a love hate for me.

I love the theory of sunroofs/moonroofs but I see them as failure points and it's not worth the extra cost. They just want way too much for them and I have no real use for them. I don't drive looking up into the sky, I don't smoke, and my head burns easily lol. I found that out the hard way on a hike up Pikes Peak once...

so i decided that i really wanted a Mav Lariat Hybrid and reached out to the dealer where i've been buying new & used Ford vehicles for almost 30yrs (Auto Nation Ford in Westlake Ohio) for a 2023 lariat hybrid. in 3 short wks they offered me 2. one was sold to a cash in hand buyer 10 min B4 i could get there to check it out. the 2nd i ended up purchasing. both were 'abandoned ordesr' that i was offered for MSRP minus my A- plan discount.

the problem i have is that i REALLY like power sunroofs and this truck didnt have that but i still went for it . i wasn't going to wait for a fresh order to be built a yr or more later. theres also stuff i cant get on the '24 Mav that i already have on my '23 Lariat Hyvbrid. also theres the '24 MY Hybrid price increase to factor in which makes me like the one a got more.

but i wanted to get my hands on one of my own so badly that i ended up buying it anyway after the dealer said he would give me every penny as for this one on a '24 Mav that i paid for this one. i figured i might as well drive this one while i wait. my problem with '24 Mav's is i lose my preferred Alto Blue exterior color; windshield wiper de-icer and securi code keyless entry.. although Ford did make the keyless entry available via the dealer its a added cost for '24 if you want that feature.

but now i that i've got this one i just LOVE it!!!

so, do i keep or flip the '23 and move on to the '24, or do i flip the '24 MY order and keep my '23 Mav which i love that doesnt have a roof? one other option, trade my current '23 Mav in for another new '23 Mav as in never titled ''23 Lariat Hybrid that does have a power sunroof and all the other stuff i'd like? they are out there folks if you look in the right places.

it's a tough call for me, what say you??

last thing, back in the 90's i had a a '96 Ranger that i had a aftermarket 'pop up' sunroof installed into & and while it wasnt a OEM power sunroof it was cheap and it would let me keep the truck i already own. maybe thats 1 way to go?

I completely get wanting the sunroof. I've had my truck since August 15th and the roof is opened every day that it doesn't rain. There's something about opening it up on a warm evening under the stars thats good for the soul. It makes absolutely no sense to pay extra for something that has the potential to cause leaks, create maintenance problems, and generates more noise and heat.
But I don't golf, hunt, fish, belong to a country club, my house is paid for and I still have my original wife, so I need to throw money away on something useless that makes me happy. It's not a rational decision, it's a quality of life choice.

I had a sun roof...once. In Texas heat I found it to be a major source of heat conduction.

I always wanted sunroofs. The last 5 vehicles I owned all had sun/moon roofs. I think I used them maybe 2 times. Honestly, I forgot they were even there.
THIS. Same for me. Never use them anymore.

Yeah sunroof not that big a deal for me. I’d stay with the 23 and maybe later if you find another 23 with the roof then maybe deal.
thats actually the way im leaning so far but we'll see

Hey what is that “A- plan discount” you speak of??
Thanks!
Ford offers several discounts off the MSRP. the 'A'Plan is the name for the one they offer employees/retirees & their immediate families. if you know someone who is A-plan eligible they can also hook you with whats called the 'friends & family plan' which will get you a discount from Ford also. not as much as the A-plan discount but a discount non the less.

and i cant help pointing out that if you're at a certain level of Mngt at Ford you get a VERY sweet lease deal on all the new iron every yr, nice right? even better if im not mistaken Ford pays for ALL costs, ins., maint, etc. except the actual lease cost itself. not that long ago the 'Bosses' did'nt even have to pay that but the IRS decided to start treating this and some other perks as income so they had to kick in a miniscule little ca$h to get to drive the newest best vehicles every yr.
Plant Managers i believe get this same perk for life. maybe they earn it, maybe they dont but you hae to admit it's not half bad.

with the current UAW contract set to expire soon i just could'nt restrain myself. that last part had nothing to do with your inquiry and im sorry for taking things off topic.

I think non-power moonroof would look cool on the Maverick. But we have had two total vehicles with a power sunroof and almost never used it. So, it is never a factor for us but we'll take it if it is there.
of course everyone's different but even on those days i didnt open it all the way i would 'tip' it up for the ventilation difference a lot.

You're in the current truck for at least 6 months due to the A Plan resale restrictions. Might as well keep your '24 order in the system and see what happens.

That would be kind of ironic if your '24 got scheduled soon and you were still within the 6 months on the A Plan purchase, so you wouldn't be able to trade or sell it. That's almost certainly not going to happen.

Also btw I have owned 2 Mavs and had a sunroof forced on me because it was a First Edition. The other truck I ordered, and drive now, has no sunroof. I don't want to deal with any creaks or leaks and I am sure they will eventually happen.

BUT... I will say that in the right weather, open sunroof, open rear window and all door windows down is pretty nice. Nicer than any other vehicle I've owned with a sunroof, I think the airflow out the rear glass is a huge benefit.
the 6mo A plan ownership thing was a surprise for me, i still dont know if thtas just for certain vehicles or if its just part of the program.
i took delivery on 26 April 2023 so i'm going to hang on to Mabel the Maverick at least until the end of Nov B4 considering another transaction. i'm just trying to get a handle on my options.

If you do decide to have an aftermarket sunroof installed, I'd recommend seeing the work of the installer in person beforehand.
thanks for the price info., its good to know what ballpark i'll be playing in if i decide to go the aftermarket route.

You can always do what I did. I am keeping my 2023 XLT hybrid and My 2024 Lariat fx4 fully loaded with every option I could click on is in production right now. Mavericks are like potato chips you can't have just one. Good luck.
