I'm having intermittent headlight issues. Dealer says that SSM 50869 applies to Mav owners, which is a service message that I found online that applies to similar problems with Mach-E vehicles that sometimes give the same ODB code.

Problems:
  • Headlights sometimes stay on for several minutes even after shutting everything off
  • Mach-E owners have a common complaint that headlights will even come while the vehicle is shut off though I haven't confirmed this one myself
  • Update: This now also impacts 2021-2022 Ford F-150 (SSM 51058)

Additional info:
  • Body Control Module B1533-08: Memory 1 Switch short to battery
  • SSM 50869: 2021-2022 Mustang Mach-E - Headlamps Turn On By Themselves When Vehicle Is Off
    • DTC B1533 Some 2021-2022 Mustang Mach-E vehicles may exhibit a condition of intermittent headlamp operation while the vehicle is OFF and have diagnostic trouble code (DTC) B1533 stored in the body control module (BCM). This may be due to the internal logic within the headlamp switch. Switch and/or module replacement will not resolve this condition. Headlamp operation is not affected while the vehicle is ON. A new headlamp switch is currently under development to correct this condition. Let the customer know they can continue to drive the vehicle and schedule a follow-up appointment in November 2022, when parts are expected to become available. Follow up with the customer to confirm the appointment once OASIS is updated with the repair information.
  • SSM 51058: 2021-2022 Ford F-150
    • I don't have the contents of the SSM; if someone has please share.

Some of these intermittent issues can be intermittently fixed by turning off the headlights with the rotary dial and then back on. It is not permanent.

If you experience this issue or have additional info, please post. It does not seem widespread. My dealer has not been terribly helpful.

Update:

Updated to include confirmation that it impacts 2021-2022 Ford F-150s.

Update 2:

Ford finally acknowledged that 2022 Mavericks are impacts. Thank you 93nighthawk for posting SSM 51299. Now we can get them fixed.

Update 3:

The dealer confirmed, ordered the new switch, and replaced it under warranty.

I'm having intermittent headlight issues. Dealer says that SSM 50869 applies to Mav owners, which is a service message that I found online that applies to similar problems with Mach-E vehicles that sometimes give the same ODB code.

Problems can manifest in many ways:
  • Auto-high beams stop working (including while driving)
  • Headlight indicator no longer lights up even though headlights are on
  • Headlights sometimes stay on for several minutes even after shutting everything off
  • Mach-E owners have a common complaint that headlights will even come while the vehicle is shut off

Additional info:

Some of these intermittent issues can be intermittently fixed by (1) turning off the headlights with the rotary dial and then back on; or (2) toggling the auto-high beam setting in the console. Neither are permanent.

I do not use my high beams often so do not know if I suffer intermittent problems. One of the times I used them was in a deer area and had trouble with them staying on. I don't remember when high beams dropped to low beam, but dropped at around 28-30 mph seems like over 30 mph they returned to high beams. This was in country with no incoming lights as well as no lights of any kind. I assume some one thought high beams are not needed at slower speeds. I have a lariat first edition.

After thinking about the headlight high beam issue I will go out tonight or tomorrow and check out how mine work. I will check to see if they are NOT on automatic and when set on high will they drop to low beams at around 28 mph and probably not return to high when I speed up. Then I will test how high beams function on automatic. Do they drop at 28mph and return to high at 30 ,or whatever, mph? I will probably not have traffic to check on coming traffic functions.

The auto-high beams should go on/off depending if the sensor detects headlights or break lights ahead. It should be without regard to speed. It can be toggled on/off in the instrument cluster. It can also be overridden with manual use of the high-beam stalk.

In my case, I have auto-high beams that function as expected but will randomly stop working. For example, I could go on a 30-minute night drive and it will work for the first 15-minutes then stop functioning for the last 15 minutes.

Aaarrrggghhh!!! I read the manual 😱. Headlamp operation is on pages 93-98 😳. On page 97 switch auto high beam control on or off. Also page 97 auto high beam control requirements 1. System on 2. Set light control to auto position 3. The ambient light level is low enough to require high beams 4. No traffic is in front of vehicle 5. The vehicle speed is greater than 32mph THEN HIGH BEAMS CAN COME ON. BUT WILL TURN OFF IF camera sees headlights, tail lamps, detects severe rain snow or fog or sees street lighting OR if camera has reduced visibility (dirty spot on windshield?, Bird poop?, Installed window tint? AND IF vehicle speed drops below 27mph!!! +Who knows what!!😂

Oh my, you're not kidding! I'll modify the original post. Looks like auto-high beam things are features not bugs and the only confirmed problem is the headlights staying on when the truck in turned off. Thanks!

I am thinking that if one has the interior lights on light reflection off inside of windshield may affect the camera and possibly turn high beams off🤔😇

I think but haven't verified that you can go into settings and set headlights to stay on or time until they go off. My head lights do not stay on when truck is turned off but the C shaped LED's on my lariat do, which I like if I am walking away from truck in the dark. If everything is working properly it shouldn't be a problem as the HVB will top off the 12v battery whenever it's programmed to.

I updated the top post because the issue is now confirmed to be impacting 2021-2022 Ford F-150s (SSM 51058). If someone has the content of the SSM I will post here.
