My first tank gave a computer indicated 47, but hand calculated was only 44. Any downsides on using the engineering mode to calibrate the fuel economy display? Doing a search here yields some discussion on the topic, but not much.

I've adjusted mine a few times until it was pretty close. Now it's usually within 1 mpg. Didn't have any side effects yet.

You have to enter "Engineering Mode". You can do a search but the gist of it is, hold down the OK button when starting the Mav, turn the key 2 clicks (not all the way to start), then there's a hidden menu that comes up that allows you to adjust the mileage calculation.

I didn't know that you could do this. However, my displayed MPG is usually only .2 to.7 mpg off from the hand calculation...good enough for me.

My onboard computer is a little optimistic but I'm OK with it. I don't really, actually, care if I'm getting 38.5 or 37.0 mpg. This just isn't one of the things I'm going to stress about.

My mileage reading is always 2 to 3 miles per gallon over the actual number. I would like to adjust this but don't see any instructions as to how to do it. I can get it into the engineering mode but the other screen to adjust it does not just popup. I'm not sure how to get to the next screen. Can anyone tell me how? Thanks!

Pushbutton start on a lariat though.
I remember doing "engineering mode" on my F-150 and got it very close, +/- 0.2 mpg compared to the actual calculated value. My escape was very optimistic in its estimate. The Maverick - well, it's a little optimistic, but not too far off. Haven't had it long enough to warrant any changes yet though.

I can get it to the engineering mode, but can't get it to the adjustment screen. Can't find instructions. Do you use arrow keys on steering wheel? If you hit the ok button too much the engineering mode goes away.
