Tell me about the front support for your canoe. Mfr? How does it attach, and is this something that's sorta permanent or could it be removed when not needed?

It's a rooftop rack I got from Amazon. Comes off and installs in a minute. Works well. Attaches with a clamp.

Your photos indicate that rack attaches in the black rooftop strips, which I like a lot.
The only one I can find on Amazon is this one that has straps way down to the door jamb.

That's the one. I started not using those clamping straps to save time. The rubber feet on the stand offs have a pretty good grip and it works well without them for the canoe.

Sure don’t want to run down road with 6 to 8 foot of lumber sticking out back of truck bed.
This is how I use to haul long lumber in my Prius. Odd that no one can design and market a utility vehicle that actually meets the largest mass residential market. Also odd if I hauled this in my Prius I could actually close the hatchback. Guess we will just continue to make do with whatever vehicle we have.

My XLT had the light trailer hitch on it and I have a 10' utility trailer that I haul my mower with. I have never pulled the trailer with the Mav. I fabricated a light hitch to fit the receiver and moved my old horse drawn JD sickle mower (yard ornament). I normally use my F250 to haul stuff. I have a 23 foot goose that handles most everything I need to move. If it's bigger than that, I have the lumber yard deliver it. I don't own a flag.

I routinely carry up to 12 foot boards in my Maverick. Even though the bed is about a foot shorter than my old Colorado, I find the tie down options in the Maverick make the job much easier. Here's my system - fast and very secure:

I have roof mounting rack ( Yakima)with clamps that I used on my F150 for hauling a 12 ft row boat (boat gone) and adjusted it to fit maverick if I need it for something . Never had a problem with it with over 10 years of use on F150 .

For temp jobs when you have some spare lumber - could be as effective with smaller/cheaper lumber, and made to hinge for storage between jobs...
