Weird, I never had a problem passing smog with a tuner. I was in the central valley so maybe they're a little more laxed than other places.
It’s not
About passing smog. It hey are now looking at if the ecu has a written tune.
If it does it must be approved.

I have a 2024 Maverick with an AEM intake and a JB4 on map 3 with 94 octane Sunco fuel. This is in NYS, no problem passing inspection.

NY is fairly easy to pass. Most tunes passed but CA changed to basically no tunes. But again flash back to stock. And be done for the test. Jb4 works well but it’s not in the same ballpark as a tune itself. Jb4 raises boost but does nothing with timing

main issue I have with JB4 and other intercepting piggyback devices (like the Panda power tuner, or racechip) is that they can't do anything about the very lame transmission map.

however, since the 2025 ecu is currently locked, if I had a '25 I would definitely get an interceptor anyway, I just might be driving it in sport mode a lot.

Just about how I feel also. Trans map maps a huge difference in drivability. But I guess we are both stupid cause if we wanted that and better mpg and towing we should have bought hybrids.
Well that what I get from other threads on here.

I have three tunes from Livernois

87-93 Tow / Economy

87-93 Performance

93 Performance

I installed the 87-93 tow/economy Yesterday. . Just thought I would start with the least "bump" in HP to see what it would feel like in comparison to the others and see how overall behavior has changed.

Wow.. What a difference. Its now such a different drive on the way through town to work in the mornings. Trans shifting and overall behavior is day and night difference and it has some really good low end grunt and throttle response is even better too.

You were right Snox801 , I should have done this sooner 👍👍

What octane are you running? I loaded mine today on 87 but I’m tempted to try 91. And do you need a separate tune for 91?

Do you have the Livernois tuner? If so they have the flex octane tune which means you choose and load 87-93 then it will just over time to whatever you have in the tank.
If the tune says 91 then you must run 91 and flash that.

Most tunes are built for a specific octane. So you will need to reflash.

Yes but livernois confused me when they replied with my tune and said they also offer a 91-93 tune now for an extra $10.

Have been on 93 octane since I bought the truck... won't run anything else

So the 87-93 octane tunes will "self-adjust" to the current octane fuel that is being ran in the truck ?

so, surely the 87-93 is using a less aggressive map than straight 93. it has to be. that's what the factory map does, also. it has to be tuned in a conservative way to be able to survive on 87, and it's using primarily KOM to determine that. then it's going to back off timing as it sees KOM fall below 1.000.

if a person always runs 93 and has certain access to 93, use a 93 only map is my thinking.

if you're traveling you can either switch maps before the trip, or keep the tuner in your truck and if you can't find 93, you reflash to a 91 map or the 87-93 flex.

This is correct. I travel a lot so I don’t always have access to 93. Especially out west. When I’m home I have a dedicated 93 map or e30 map I run.
So yes if you only ever run 93 like I have in previous vehicles just get a 93 map as it will be more aggressive
