Now I just keep up plastic milk crate handy. It works as a good step and catch all. It does not collapse but the Price Is Right
Don't let the sun get at it, plastic milk crates get pretty brittle and when you jam your foot through it they're like a bear trap.

Have had plastic stools and saw horses and found them pretty unsafe...eventually breaking. I looked at the tailgate ladder and feel it would get in the way when loading groceries being semi-permanently attached to the tailgate. I use an aluminum folding stool that lets me step on and then one step directly into the bed, without climbing. I've tried the ladder and the alum. stool is definitely safer, especially if carrying a heavy cooler on to the tailgate. Alum stool easily fits in the back seat or bed when needed.

Somebody was asking a week ago about a step up for their tailgate. I can't remember who but I saw this new product from harbor freight and thought about the post so wanted to provide a PSA for anybody interested. Seems like an interesting concept for those that need it.

I didn't know such things existed. For years I've just got in and out of our (Dodge) truck bed by climbing up/down a rear wheel.

I use a folding aluminum one step, it's about 1 ft x 2.5 ft, sits about a foot off the ground and is rated for 300lbs. Not sure who makes it, got it at Northern Tool a long time ago.

Whatever you use, make sure it's rated for your weight and whatever you're carrying, and it's stable enough when you step down. It's easier going up than coming down, and putting my on step lengthwise gives me plenty of room if we're walking something heavy into the bed.
