All,
Just installed the H&R Sport springs on the Maverick. I really like the look of them, and the ride quality is better than expected! 1.5" drop front, 2" drop rear. Leveled.
Very quick and easy install overall. Only noticed a couple things:
- The wiper arms themselves need to be removed in order to allow (best) access to the mounting bolts for the tops of the struts. Those don't come off too easily, but they do come off by hand! Don't get too carried away there.
- The factory strut is a little long once the lowering spring is installed. You get some movement in the spring, even after you torque them down. This goes away once the strut assembly is installed with the weight of the vehicle on them. Basically jumped the truck over some train tracks to verify it wouldn't move - which it didn't. Springs were still in the correct orientation and up against the spring isolator stops upon inspection.
Overall, fit and finish looks excellent and is superior in quality to the factory springs. Factory ones looked to be linear whereas these look so be a little beefier and more dual rate than progressive. It allows for a great ride too! Even on harder bumps it didn't bottom out (i.e. jumping some tracks at 50mph). The primary rate for daily driving is soft and comfortable, and higher speed handling is improved as well. The truck sits nice and level, but the excessive wheel gap is gone. Stood on the tailgate (240lbs) and the squat was negligible, just like factory.
Torque specs can be found with a quick google search but here's what you'll need:
Fronts:
Strut assy. nut for spring install is 41 ft/lbs and blue Loctite.
Steering knuckle bolts to strut assy. are 81 ft/lbs plus 120 degrees and blue Loctite.
Sway bar disconnect upper nut is 81 ft/lbs and blue Loctite.
Upper strut mounting bolts are 22 ft/lbs.
Rears:
Lower shock bolt is 81 ft/lbs and blue Loctite.
Lower knuckle bolt is 81 ft/lbs plus 120 degrees and blue Loctite.
Wheels:
Lugnuts are 148 ft/lbs.
If you're doing the install and have some questions please shoot me a message.
Cheers!
