I just got back into camping and have built my Maverick for the use of overlanding. I use a ground tent, Gazelle T4 overland edition. Where do you fellers and Felletes go camping/overlanding?

I am in Indiana and have ventured into the Hoosier National Forest, https://www.fs.usda.gov/recarea/hoosier/recarea/?recid=41554

I am not a fan of crowds as that is what I wish to escape from while camping.

Any recommendations?

Check out my Instagram in the link. Those places are all in Washington, mostly dispersed on USFS land.

Go to West Texas, namely the Big Bend area, it's bigger than Vermont and deserted. Lots to see there, but can get hot in the summer, real hot. Or drive along the beach at Padre Island National Seashore (PINS). Hell, do both if yer in Texas

Similar to bgn, we tend to go out to National Forest and BLM land. My kids love Jordan Valley / Leslie Gulch in OR bc its a quick drive, has multiple water options, hiking and is easy to find spots where you'll never see another person

You might want to inquire about opportunities just to the North in Michigan this summer. To many small and large campgrounds or camping sights to mention. Including several off road trails including sleeping bear sand dunes. Many waterfalls and pristine areas in the upper peninsula along with many lakes, rivers for scenic views and fishing. You would need a non resident fishing license if your above a certain age. Also you can camp outside of a campground on state land by permit only. Anyway Michigan has a lot to offer and usually cooler in the summer than getting close to the equator. It still can get awful hot and with all this water it can be very humid as well.

Because of tourism along with Michiganders I would highly contact the state for information and certain high use areas preregister and make an itinerary to tour the state.

I know you posted getting away from people but certain high tourism areas are worth the discomfort. Grayling has a small building explaining the first industrial revolution lumberjacks with pictures and equipment used. You can take a walk back in time to see the bunks and lifestyle they endured for up to 6 months at a time away from home. Mackinac Island a boat ride to get to an island with no motorized vehicles is another step back in time. Crossing the straits on the Mackinaw bridge, I advise doing it on a good day no wind, it's 5 miles long. Porcupine mountain, picture rocks, tahquamenon falls etc in the UP. Just thought I would mentioned some sight seeing locations. Many many off road trails but some are ATV or motorcross but are easily identified on the maps you can access on the web.

If you are up for a road trip and don't mind boondocking. . . any place in the Gifford Pinchot Forest that no one else is at. You can see if there are other places to camp around and that gives you a good idea of the possibility of neighbors. Walk side roads that look seldom used and iffy. You can find treasures and know if your Maverick is up to the task. If you don't mind a campground and fish the Yakima Canyon is hard to beat. Campgrounds are usually full but not terribly big and quite a ways apart. Fishing is fly fishing only, catch and release.

Im just getting back into camping after 5 years myself. Of course I am locked into camping on Maui. But back in Ohio I used to go to Acton Lake and Ceasars Creek. There is a large recreation area in the north west quarter of Indiana, a friend of mine used to go camping there. Cant remember the name. But it was halfway up from Indy and west of the highway going to to Chicago.

Go the Upper Peninsula of Michigan, all kinds of lonely spots up here.

The GP is where I saw my first Maverick off-road. It's a phenomenal forest, especially for folks near Seattle and Portland.
