I have a 2023 hybrid XLT. Brought it home last week and didn’t expect mpg to be this high. Been getting mid 40 mpg on my trip to Boston ever day (43 miles each way).

They do pretty good in the city. That 75min commute must get old

I concur, the MPG on the 23 Hybrid’s are solid. Keep your tires inflated 40lbs and use the slippery mode to keep regenerative breaking from robbing your momentum, and you can easily exceed the EPA rating.

Funny how the ECO mode really isn’t any better than the normal mode and that Slippery seems to get the best MPG.

It’s been raining here in ATL so I’ve been using slippery mode and the results are very excellente

If you left the house 5-10min earlier than usual, you could probably crack into the 50's since you won't be in as much of a rush. 😉

The other day I made several short trips around town, then came home. For the first 2-3 stops, I was getting low 50's for mpg. Then came my final leg home from my daughter's house:

That's my best (by far) mileage - though it's certainly not sustainable for longer distances. I'm pretty sure the HVB was fully charged when we stopped, and the ICE only engaged briefly when I first started (uphill) and about a 1/4 mile from the house as I topped a hill. Other than that, it was an EV trip... Still, it was fun to see this when I parked it in the driveway.

I found that the system will be more eager to use electric only in eco mode. I first noticed this when I did a trip using normal mode and a patch I usually coast in I couldn’t get the engine to turn off. Switching to eco mode it turned off instantly.

Try it in "Slippery" mode, for even better results. MavGPS turned me on to this in his posts on getting the best mileage from your Maverick. I'm getting 2-3 mpg better in Slippery than I did in Eco.

Apparently, Slippery mode allows you to coast a lot more, and slows throttle response (to avoid wheel spin on slippery surfaces), it also makes the re-gen a lot less aggressive, but still effective. It's less like "one-pedal driving" than Eco mode. Net result is better mileage.

This has been my experience too. Slippery mode tends to soften braking regeneration, giving you more hypermiling, coasting. That is the key to fuel efficiency. Get up to speed, coast, and repeat.

Just a disclaimer for Slippery mode, it works best on flat roads but Eco mode may give you better results in more hilly, mountainous roads, where brake regeneration would be more sustainable and efficient. Here in FL, regen. Is useless, coasting is way more efficient.

This is getting into crazy territory. Reminds me of a friend years ago who bought the mileage improvement gadgets for his car. I asked him if they helped and he stated they were so good, he had to stop twice and drain gas out because the tank kept overflowing.

Yeah, but note that i said it is not sustainable, and the conditions were pretty much optimal for that short drive. But it IS fun to see one like that every once in a while when there's no traffic and conditions are right. For the most part, I'm finding I can get 45-50 mpg (per the onboard computer, which is a bit optimistic) on most of my in-town drives. After my next fuel-up, I'm going to adjust my computer to more closely match the actual mileage. Of course, that might be a while... Ha!

You are right, it is fun. We also have a Kia Niro Hybrid and I actually had some fun with my wife and drove like 20 mph for the 12 mi round trip going a back road to pick up some things. I don't think I left EV but maybe once and came in with 72 mpg and told her I expected her to do that each time. I never knew what hit me LOL.

After 2K on our XLT Hybrid Mav, with a 65/35 Highway/City split, we do a solid 40-41 mpg and could not be happier.
