Anyone else park their truck in the garage after a fill up (no top off) and next day go in garage and get hit with gas fumes?
I am also getting this gas smell while filling up and after parking in my garage. Just had a clutch damper replacement on the truck so engine and transmission had to be removed and reassembled. Not sure if it had something to do with it but I recall smelling gas other times too.

All modern vehicles have vents in the gas tank and a system that removes fumes based on the air pressure in the tank. Most gas stations store gas at a set temperature, so after filling the gas expends or contracts based on the ambient air temperature. I doubt there are any issues.

Thanks for your input! I think you are correct. Probably not an issue.

You are correct. After I have driven the truck for a few more km, the smell completely went away. And now that I recall I did add more Gas after the first click. So probably over pressurized it. Won't do that again.

Over filling can be one problem. I don’y overfill and still had the problem. Took it to Ford to check out. Initially they could not find a problem. I was prompted by the $190 diagnostic charge, so I said I will go fill up and return immediately. They then ran 14 tests and the Maverick failed the evap test. Here is what they found, in their words from the service ticket:

“Completed EVAP system test. - failed with no codes stored. Removed the under body splash shields and inspected, found the fuel tank is leaking from the fuel filler neck where it is molded into the tank.”

Repair included “tank ASY - Fuel, Clamp - exhaust, gasket, removed and replaced fuel tank"

If you are a smoker I would suggest you consider this possible cause. If you don’t park in a garage you may never notice the fumes. We noticed the problem because we fill up with gas at Costco, drive 10 miles home and park in a garage.

Funny I notice that my garage always smells like gas after I fill it up. Once I have driven a bit and the gas level is down the smell goes away. I may have to check this out.

I was just leaving to pick up my 24 today after the camera recall fix when the dealership called and said the tech smells gas near the fill door, so now I'm back to waiting.

I called the dealer and they said "they replaced a hose, and now have to fill it and check tomorrow." If that doesn't work then it's getting a new tank. Dang, truck has never left the lot yet.

Good news, the hose they replaced fixed the leak. I can pick up my 24 today!

Build was 10/24. They had it on the lift and showed me the hose they replaced between the filler tube and tank. All good. And she's finally mine!
