Gaps in the bed.

Alright everyone,

I just found something irksome. I was cleaning out my bed of some pillows and blankets from the drive in and a bunch of stuff was soaked on the bottom. Normally I would have thought that the tonneau was on wrong and that it leaked during storms this week, but on further investigation I found decent sized gaps along the wheel wells. So nasty road water is being kicked up from the tires into the bed. I understand the need for drain holes, but if that's what these are I'd say the engineers messed up here.

Anyone else notice this? Is this a feature or a flaw? Best advise for sealing these? I'm thinking just black rubber caulk so it still flexes, but if any of you are more MacGyver-y, let me know what might work better.

Yes it has been talked about for some time here on the forum.

Some have suggested using a little Flex Seal (Black) to fill it.

Put down a tarp, place your stuff, wrap it up and close the tonneau. No worries. Happy Motoring.

I would be paying a visit to my dealer where I bought it and see what they have to say before I caulk anything

its not normal. There should be enough drainage points without those gaps. If it is "normal" for the Mav then its sloppy engineering.

This has to be the First Truck in Truck History, where Every Owner has gone over this complete truck with a Magnifying Glass looking for ANY issue or imperfection and the worst part - they are posting Every Little Issue.

I have had three trucks in my lifetime and NOT ONCE did I ever crawl throughout the Engine Compartment or every square inch of the Exterior, Interior, Bed looking for anything I could point my finger at the manufacture!!

I have enjoyed my 2022 XLT Maverick to no end and I know it's not a perfect truck, but ONE THING FOR SURE - I'm not going to spend my days "Trying" to find something wrong.

the gaps in the bed pictured are glaringly obvious and hardly need a magnifying glass to see. They are either a result of sloppy engineering or sloppy manufacturing. appear to be more and wider than necessary for drainage

Yes, I did and I've been calling FORD everyday trying to get them to keep the rocks out of my tire treads! COME ON FORD, rocks in the tires!!

When spot welding the bed, the clamping fixture did not apply enough pressure, or was out of adjustment to pull the metal together. Could also be the spot weld tips where not dressed and did not pass enough current to from a nugget. Either way, that many missing spot welds can not help rear crash. I would get the dealer to clamp and add spot welds or MIG the seam in the gap areas.

I have noticed alot of the "physical" issues that people have been having are not like that on mine. I'm wondering if the earlier builds had better quality control or better materials... something. I don't have chipped paint, peeling stickers, gaps in bed, shotty welds... etc mine was build in early Sept. Would be curious if that was the case.

It’s supposed to be like that, it allows the UNIBODY TO FLEX without damaging the other body panels. It might be best to leave it alone.
