Getting a little more serious in placing an order for the Maverick. Since the truck will be used for "soft off roading" pulling an off road teardrop trailer or heading back into the woods, I was looking at 4k package and fx4 package until I noticed the overlap in products. Does anyone know if there is a discount when you combine 4k/FX4 package. The radiator fan, 4 pin trailer and the heavy duty radiator are doubled. I guess I could add the protective gear after market since the extra driving modes of FX4 aren't really needed with practice and skill. Ironic that those modes used to be standard when you had low 1,2 and 3 in your transmission.

Sadly no. If you get the 4K on top of the FX4 (which I’m planning to do as well(y)) they are adding a 3.81 drive ratio, 7 pin trailer connector with integrated brake controller, and a transmission cooler on top of all the FX4 goodies. Since these are factory installed not port or dealer installed you aren’t getting 2 of those , your only getting them added on top of it.

I think the conversation is more about being charged twice for the receiver, higher-capacity radiator and upgraded cooling fan.

Yes. It is hard to pay for something that you are not getting due to the upgraded features of another package. Ford could easily offer a package called The 4 package which includes 4k towing/FX4 and price it between the total of both packages combined.

With a goal of staying below $25,000 it is getting tougher because the FX4 package isn't offered on the XL trim.

I understand that there SHOULD be a discount, but on Ford's end at scale you're probably talking $50-100 difference in parts. So they'd MAYBE offer you a discount of $20-40 dollars. Frustrating I know, but not uncommon when it comes to equipment bundles.

I agree. My logic brain is taking over and telling me to wait and don't preorder with all the potential unknowns. Let the first year Maverick go so all shortcomings can be addressed and fixed that only show when equipment hits the scale of the marketplace. See what cool designs and products the aftermarket vendors come up with for Maverick. The new design Frontier will be out too. The new Ranger upgrades will be introduced. Depending on how Maverick sells there could be better options or deals. Logic over emotion wins.

there likely will be several price increases while you are waiting though (I'm in same boat), so maybe a cost/benefit analysis is in order deciding if paying 2x for item overlap in packages is less/more annoying than price hikes. The price hikes raise taxes paid at purchase for 1 thing. Reality Bites sometimes.

Your thinking is like my thinking. Fortunately I live in a tax friendly state. Our state tax is capped on car purchases. It was just raised to $500 from $300. No worries there. It is an exciting time to be in the truck/pickup market. A lot of new stuff coming to market. Im lucky, money isn't the true issue. Value and getting what I pay for is important so I have patience on my side. I prefer to buy used with less than 10,000 miles/less than a year old on an auto so another party can take the depreciation, dealer prep and destination charge hit for me. Waiting makes sense. I hope the Maverick shows the promise it is advertising because it checks many boxes but the mid size truck does too. Especially a lightly used one.

Slightly off topic but is there a really good reason for me to buy AWD with the 4k package? I don't don't drive off road, no boat, don't get much snow and ice in SC so why pay extra money for more rotating parts, extra weight, and a little less gas mileage. FWD tows the same 4k as the AWD so am I missing something? I ordered a Lariat (FWD-4K) so the late avail does not apply?

I was questioning the similarity between FX4 and 4K tow packages in earlier threads, and finally went back to the dealer Friday and changed my order to include both. The FX4 fits 95% of my needs, but I have this funny feeling that the 4K tow is going to be a "bucket list" item if I ever go to resale. I certainly feel like I am overpaying for what appears to be nothing more than a trans cooler and 7 vs. 4 pin wiring, but if I eventually choose to tow a small camper or SxS, the 2k rating would be overwhelmed. I'll need to pare down my fleet (too many vehicles) at some point and would rather be safe than sorry on the Maverick order if I no longer have larger vehicles to do the heavy lifting. And when/if I part ways with the Maverick, it makes it on the fully loaded XLT list. My MSRP now exceeds $31k, but with dealer discount, I should still be at the $30k mark.

Hey Ron,

I am SC too. Upstate. I am considering AWD because I am a hiker, Mtn. Biker and a fly fisherman and 4WD isn't available on the Maverick. I do some soft off roading with an off grid teardrop and I would use it for travel to the backwoods and when we go to the Outer Banks to beach camp and beach road. FWD would be fine if I didn't pull a teardrop.

If I wasn't doing these activities I would save the money for FWD. My wife and daughter have AWD on their Outback and Forrester and we haven't been in a position where I have said "AWD saved us or I am glad I had it. FWD would have been adequate" For what it is worth there is some piece of mind that my daughter has it since she travels I40 to Knoxville on her way to Kentucky for school.

I see that you have a 2020 Ranger. If its is the extended cab, not the 4 door, with 4wd and you buy a Maverick, Im interested in your Ranger.

I live in the Low Country so no hills here. I understand wanting AWD if its used. My Ranger sits in the garage most days and has never been off the pavement. It is an ext cab but a FX2.

Save the money and go FWD! We lived in Charleston/Mt. Pleasant for 10 years and never needed AWD. The toughest place for my truck was the Sullivan's Island FD boat landing and getting our boat out.

low country here aswell! We might be the only ones with Mavericks! I am going AWD for towing the boat and for when I go up to Asheville. I have been VERY torn about it though.

If had a boat and/or spent time in the mountains then I prolly would spring for the AWD but I don't even own a boat and 4 hours from any mountains. I waffled on my Ranger FX2 package as something I would not use but it was already on the truck and might help in resale here but otherwise a unneeded option. Of course thats nothing new when buying a new vehicle, lots of unneeded options.:)
