Manual says the AWD without the FX4 option is not recommended for off-road use.Good info - I didn't know about the trailing arms. Do we know how different the shocks really are ? For fun look at the owners manual regarding off road usage, it's quite a laugh.
They want you to enjoy those sweet animated graphics changing drives modes.Didn’t realize the bigger screen was bundled with the FX4. Kind of odd to me that they grouped it there and not with the lux package. I am getting awd 4k might do some light off-roading but didn’t think it was a must have.
I read on a spec sheet the rear shocks on the FX4 pkg were monotube instead of standard shocks. That was a great bonus to me.Good info - I didn't know about the trailing arms. Like I have said before nothing Ford states about off-roading is legally binding on a term that does not have a defined definition- What the heck is off-roading Ford ? LOLManual says the AWD without the FX4 option is not recommended for off-road use.![]()
I had to google the Monotubes benefits- )I read on a spec sheet the rear shocks on the FX4 pkg were monotube instead of standard shocks. That was a great bonus to me.
Ditto for me AND the wheels are the nicest ones offered on my humble opinion. So those factors alone made it worth the FX4 price in my book. The rest is gravy and will probably enhance resale, if I ever sell it.Having the extra cooling was worth it to me which may actually extend the life of the engine. Also, the AWD/FX4 includes the independent multi-link trailing arm suspension and includes the Off-road tuned shock absorbers.

I've sold auto parts for a living for over 40 years...I have a tiny advantage.I had to google the Monotubes benefits- )
I don't even HAVE a driveway....Now you've got me worried... haha...What would be considered off road use. I have a 1/3 mile gravel driveway i keep in good condition. Is that going to be a problem?
I upgraded from the black fx4 wheels to the 17 Alloys/Machined face/235/17s since black wheels aren't my thing but at an additional $795, might think about pulling them off when it arrives and selling the set-Ditto for me AND the wheels are the nicest ones offered on my humble opinion.
